Where is Shrewsberry going?Would be an interesting decision for Langel….go back home or go get paid at ND or Penn St.
Rumor is Georgetown as a potential landing spotWhere is Shrewsberry going?
I would be very surprised if he got ND or Penn State.Would be an interesting decision for Langel….go back home or go get paid at ND or Penn St.

He should - and I don’t have any intel saying he won’t be in the mix - but those two schools feel like stretches from Colgate.
One of Penn State’s challenges in basketball is that State College is basically a very small city in the middle of nowhere with no other cities around it to draw local fans to the games on a regular basis, besides the student population. Football is different because games are on weekends and fans can travel from all around the state. Plus they’ve been so bad in basketball for so long, there isn’t much of a fan base anyways. The Wikipedia page for Penn State Basketball includes a section "Overcoming Historical Irrelevance", concluding that it has been trying unsuccessfully to do so for decades. I get that they are in the Big Ten...but that doesn't feel like a selling point - "come coach us for a few years, have no change at recruiting at the level of your conference peers, and get fired".
The fact their coach now is rumored to be looking at Georgetown should give some idea how undesirable that job is...Penn State probably shouldn't consider any successful D1 coach a "stretch". They might - but they shouldn't.

Yep Cael Sanderson is dominating at Penn State like Dan Gable did at Iowa in the 80s and 90sWrestling is bigger at Penn State than basketball. Wrestling they recruit nationally, have matches in front of sellout crowds, and win national championships often. Their tickets for wrestling sell out before the season starts. So that's another barrier to success there - a hoops player isn't even second fiddle on campus, they are third fiddle behind the football players and wrestlers.
They had a tiny shot at becoming relevant when they first built Bryce Jordan; it didn't happen and now basketball is in a more hopeless situation than it was 30 years ago. The best they can do is hire mid-major coaches and hope they have a few good seasons before moving on to another power program...and start the cycle all over again.
(As an aside, I live in PA and cannot believe how big wrestling became in the last decade. Lot of predominately minority schools in the middle of PA that either had no program or one that couldn't fill out all the weight classes back in the 90s and 2000's that are going two deep now. Going to my son's wrestling tournaments, its amazing how much more diverse the backgrounds of the youth wrestlers are now than when I was a kid.)
