Holy hell. But also, UT - so I don't suspect much here.
If found guilty, he should never be allowed to be around student athletes and coach again.
Yeah, that's not happening on a 3rd degree charge. It'll be a short multi-game suspension, counseling, and fine.

From another article.

“The spokeswoman said Beard was booked into the Travis County Jail at 4:21 am Monday morning on a charge of assault on a family/household member by impeding breath circulation.”

In other words choking. But you’re right. The ncaa and member schools tolerate choking.

Anyone not famous would have had the word choking in the report instead of saying it that way

Love the timeline in the article: "Texas men's basketball coach Chris Beard was arrested early Monday morning, an Austin Police spokesperson told CBS Sports. Beard, 49, was arrested and booked at 4:18 a.m. local time on a third-degree charge of assault against a family member. Austin Police responded to a "disturbance hot shot," per an Austin PD spokesperson, at 12:15 a.m. "

So... the Austin PD spokesperson responded at 12:15 am before he was actually booked at 4:18 am? Does APD have a time machine that we don't know about or did Matthew Mconaughey and Michael Dell team up to build minority report without telling anyone?

Strangling his wife?

I do suspect much here.

Who knows... Latrell Sprewell choked out his coach and he not only played afterwards, he was and still remains a very popular player.

He should never coach again, but there's always Liberty to take in abusers.

I didn't see the specific allegation. Yikes.

He was booked after they showed up and arrested him

Apparently alcohol rumors have always surrounded him. Don’t believe he has a wife. Rumors also included a past(maybe present?) girlfriend who was abusive TO Him. Should be interesting.
And this is who they want to help grow young minds?

Interestingly enough the UT football coach was asked to leave a head coach job at a different high profile program because of alcohol abuse if memory serves.

You think they should of arrested and booked him before they responded to the situation?

I'm sure people know this, and it's not hard to discern from the violence of the act itself, but when there is strangulation in domestic abuse, the likelihood of eventual homicide increases significantly in the future for the victim.

Beard should be terminated from his job and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

What a wretched person.

I know a guy who lost a DI football scholarship when he was busted selling drugs. Did time…turned his life around; now he goes around to high schools talking to football teams in preseason taking about the importance of doing things the right way and how not doing that cost him big time in life.

So I’m a believer in second chances…but in my story above, I don’t think it would have played out that way if he’d gotten a slap on the wrist and kept playing DI football. Second chances are great as long as there’s legitimate consequences when you screw up. Don’t have enough info here to know what “legitimate consequences” would be, so we’ll see how this plays out as more info is an available.

Third chances are stupid.

And my understanding with domestic violence, especially to this level, is that it never just happens once.

Texas has a home game vs Rice tonight. They opened as 26.5 favorites, now down to 24.5. Be interesting to see if it moves more in his absence.
