Texas fires Tom Herman / hires Steve Sarkisian

Guy's a genius. Literally. Mensa Society member (I read his bio, had to sound out the words).

Someone will snap him up as an HC. Maybe spend a year as someone's OC, and he's right back in charge.

Texas and Auburn represent the extreme opposite end of the spectrum that Syracuse is on the other extreme end of insofar as complacency with underperformance. Wow.

The school's statement proves that football drives the bus in Texas. Firing a football coach has to be approved by the Board of Regents! That is not normal in higher education.
not sure I follow. Isn’t what Texas did normal at a lot of schools?

Texas and Auburn are just pissed that they aren’t apart of the Factory Football School Club that currently consists of Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia and Oklahoma.

It is a requirement that 3 of these schools get into the CFB playoff each year and you have to be part of this club to win a National Championship.

Brian Kelly figured this out yesterday as he was the fat chick that was left on the curb.

I bet Auburn would have gladly hired Tom Herman, is it too late to dump the Boise guy?

Herman back to Houston and they fire Dana H?

Oh too have donor dollars to make these crazy knee jerk reactions.

Good for Sark. He is in as good as a job one can have and it's as stable as can be. I love the fact Texas could not buy him.

Every year there are only 2-3 teams worthy of playing in the playoffs. Getting your doors blown off when you are the defacto 4th team like OU has been or ND this year shouldn't result in the coach catching heat. Same thing would happen to any Pac 12 school if they snuck in. I guess you could just put in 3 SEC schools and you might get closer games.

Conference Championship games aren't even competitive and have been absolute trash to watch the last decade or so.

That is complete insanity. I thought Sark kept ND in the game last night with ultra conservative play calling that relinquished a lot of their momentum. He was a disaster as a HC previously.

Auburn and Texas have lost their collective minds.
They knew they had the game they didn't want to put much on film for next Monday.

from a Texas Message Board...this guy has some valid points...

Jesus fvcking Christ on crutches with a broken leg. Sarkasian is a fvcking OC. He's proven he can't handle the HC spotlight. We need a defensive minded guy that can hire an OC like sark--- not Sark himself.

Look, Sark has issues. Highly publicized issues. People can claim all day long that he's been on the wagon and he's clean. Cool. I hope that's the case. But the pressure dial at Alabama as an assistant is around 6.5--- the dial will be turned up to 12 in Austin. How's he going to handle that after he drops his first game? Is he going to handle it like a man or will he end up naked and passed out on his office floor in Belmont.

I'm all for second chances, but this one comes with too much at stake.

FWIW, other than Ash, two Longhorn coaches have ties to our region:

Stan Drayton, the running games coordinator, coached RB's at SU in 2009.

And Herb Hand, a highly-regarded OL coach, graduated from Hamilton College.

Not sure that’s fair.

We Fired 2 obviously underachieving coaches after 4 and 3 years.

We are being a bit more patient with a coach who had 2 good years of progress (huge wins and better offense) followed by the best season in 20 years followed by a modesty underachieving year missing a bowl by 1 game (and I frankly think we coulda/shoulda won 1 more even with the injuries).

This was followed by a Covid year with new coordinators (see last years underacheiving year correction) and no offseason to install new schemes or get Strength and Conditioning followed by the worst injury bug in million years. And even in the epically bad year there are signs the defense (DFB biggest historical weakness) was rounding into form and becoming no longer a liability

Kelly has to at least deal with some academic standards that those other five could care less about.
