Texas fires Tom Herman / hires Steve Sarkisian

News update, Herman hired at Alabama to run offense for Tide. ( This is sarcasm, not real news...until it actually happens). Saban and his reclamation projects.
I can totally see that happening

I know these guys are getting paid a fortune. But you can’t rebuild a program in 2 years. You need to make relationships and build from new recruits. Texas can’t keep hiring and firing guys every 3 years. It just won’t work. And what about sark is a big time hire?

Texas arguably has more money, and more recruiting territory than anyone in the country. My first call would have been urban Meyer (not a fan, but he is clearly a big time coach, and yes, may be going to the NFL). My second call would have been Pat Fitzgerald (he probably wouldn’t leave, he wouldn’t go to the packers 2 years ago), and my third and final call would have been a blank check to Matt Campbell. What he has done at Iowa State has been incredible. Now move slightly south, more recruiting, more money, national prestige. He doesn’t say no.

I still think they should have stayed with Herman. He’s a Texas guy and he would have got the job done IMO.

Texas is a top 5 job in the nation. Any person not at a blue blood HC should take it if offered.
What Texas should have done is hire TCU coach Gary Patterson.
He rebuilt TCU from a CUSA school into a Big XII contender.

He would own Texas recruiting at Texas and rebuild them.

Do they need to be rebuilt? They lost 3 games by a total of 13 points, one in overtime. They scored 124 points their last 2 games against decent teams.

But agree with your choice. They fired Herman, and basically re-hired Herman. Patterson must have turned them down in the past, makes no sense that they wouldn't be looking to him. Or even Campbell.

I strongly believe in 2nd chances, but putting Sark as head coach in Austin is flying way too close to the sun.

I'm not saying I'm hoping Sark will fail, but this almost certain flame out is going to be must see TV.

I think Campbell does say no. How many good coaches get fired due to insane boosters before the job becomes toxic? He’s also known to be a straight as an arrow recruiter - not sure that flies at Texas

Well and jauntily expressed.

from a Texas Message Board...this guy has some valid points...

Jesus fvcking Christ on crutches with a broken leg. Sarkasian is a fvcking OC. He's proven he can't handle the HC spotlight. We need a defensive minded guy that can hire an OC like sark--- not Sark himself.

Look, Sark has issues. Highly publicized issues. People can claim all day long that he's been on the wagon and he's clean. Cool. I hope that's the case. But the pressure dial at Alabama as an assistant is around 6.5--- the dial will be turned up to 12 in Austin.
Well and profanely expressed
This is as funny as anything

I'm just having a crazy love affair with the whole Syracuse Fan Board

I bet all of those guys were contacted.

And if they were all contacted and said no, not sure why they moved on. Sark hasn’t done anything in his career to show that he is a home run hire. He is not a Texas guy, he is born and raised in California, head coaching experience in California. He was 34-29 at Washington and 12-6 at USC as a head coach. And that is who Texas fires there coach for?

If he fails I just wouldn't want it to be because of his problems with alcohol. Wouldn't wish that on anyone. If he goes big and it just doesn't work out then so be it. He just becomes an OC again.

Agree. I couldn't care less about Texas football, but I hope this works out for Steve with his personal issues. If those crop up again, it's not at all funny and doesn't do anyone any good.

Up until Flores and Judge (maybe) the same thing happened in the NFL with the Belichick assistants.

Recall that Eric Mangini had success during his first year with the Jets.

He didn’t fair too well with the Falcons either.
