Texas Tech QB transfer

I love Dungey but he has flaws. I will say the same to my mom if she was the QB lol. He is a freshman so he is suppose to have flaws. There's no denying that he has something special. Im just stating the obvious, and that is he's a great playmaking QB that needs to work on other attributes of QB play. I want to see him consistently good and not occasionally great. Being consistent with his reads, progression, decision making and his accuracy on intermediate throws. Im not ready to crown him yet
I couldn't agree more. That is why I want to see him play and develop under this staff. He is very intelligent and, according to all reports, a quick study . We need jim to use his talents to extend plays and not to run an option offense.

I can't wait until Dungey sets the record book on fire.

He was in a largely dysfunctional offensive system and at times looked as good as anyone we've had.

Dino + Dungey
It probably been said but damn that's a nice avatar lol

I'd make you a purty Canuck version but I'm buzy

Dungy's injury history and just from what Ive seen overall the last two seasons with injuries. We need as many high caliber QB's as possible. FSU QB went out today, they didnt have Golston. The next kid they brought in was terrible. They would have had any chance to win if the starter hadnt come back in.

That QB was scared...big time freezing nervous out there.

The staff has to be correct in any evaluation of a transfer that can play immediately. It screwed up SU before and it messed up FSU this year with Golston as I believe they would not have lost to GT.

I agree. Team chemistry is important and bringing in transfers can be a risk. Dino and his staff got transfers at BG. I have a feeling they will at Cuse too. Maybe not at QB but for other positions. This staff wants to win now. Going to be a interesting off season to say the least.

I could see other positions especially DE and Safety. I wonder if Dungy would be ok with a redshirt year to learn the system and heal a bit?

Don't think we'd be in the running for this kid, but if we were able to secure some sort of transfer, is it crazy to consider redshirting Dungey? I know it's not standard practice, but he could use about 20 lbs. and some seasoning - and was scheduled to redshirt from what we were all told prior to Hunt getting hurt.

Obviously, this is just blind speculation, but I just can't see Dungey wanting to RS or the staff thinking that would be a good idea. Dungey is a competitor number 1. DB has had success molding available QBs into productive performers in his O. I also don't see them creating potential log jams at the position by red shirting anyone at this point.

They are going to evaluate the talent at hand, play the best, and let the chips fall. The other big factor, IMO, will be their desire to recruit to the position given the advantages they now have with the Dome. I have a sense that we will see a lot of offers at QB over the next 2-3 recruiting cycles, with little to no red shirting.

I think Dungey will play too (if healthy). And will be good to very good in the system. Just a thought, especially with his injury history from last year and his relatively thin frame.

If a QB doesn't play do you think he should toss a year away? I'm all for using QB 1 and then down the line depending on situations/injuries but if a QB isn't going to see the field I don't understand why not to let them get stronger and learn the system. As for Dungy, he's competitive and I expect him to be QB1 unless Hunt is ruled eligible in his protest. Then it gets interesting.

If Dungey gets beat out by a veteran QB with experience, then he has no choice but to back up and possibly redshirt. Remember this will be Dungey's first year learning the system too. I like Dungey but Im more excited for what he can do in the long run once he sharpens up. He can be the best we ever had. I will like him to be the starter next year but I want him to really be contested and pushed to get better with his deficiencies. If he wins out that means we see a even better version of him if he doesnt, he gets a year to learn the system with 2 or 3 yearsto play and dominate.

I believe, in general, it is a fallacy to think that if Joe QB is not good enough to win the job this season, he will be after sitting out a year. Not now, not with the "talent" we currently have at QB. At this stage of program development in a new and dramatically different O, you let everybody compete, play the best, bring in more talent for the following year, and repeat the process.

Sometimes teams go with the safer choice at QB until they are ready to give it up completely to the more talented guy. I will think in most cases a 5th year guy with experience could possibly beat a 2nd year guy. Especially when they are both learning a new system at the same time.

Good point. I have a strong sense that talent will trump experience by a large margin with this staff in this system for the next 2-3 years. Personally, I also believe this is the way to go and that this will be the fastest path to sustainable success.

While I believe in "the best player plays", a tie should go to the player with more eligibility remaining. There is also the question of using a scholarship on a one and done transfer. Unless the transfer is something special, I would opt for a freshman or even a JUCO.

I agree Crusty

One thing I haven't seen mentioned as people get concerned with Dungey getting hurt is that the Dino offense I have seen is a very quick passing attack. Not quick in tempo, but quick in the QB read. Their QB's don't stand back in the pocket for long and get the ball out. I have zero doubt Dungey is going to take significantly fewer hits and will have few called QB runs. I think his extending plays now happens with a simple slide to avoid the rush and to hit the next WR.

Meh...we say that but then Baylor lost 4 QBs this year to injuries. The good news with this offense seems to be that you're not necessarily dead in the water if you do lose your star QB.
