Thamel article on coach hot seat & others

Do you really think a new AD is going to can a coach (who has been to a bowl game) in his third year if he doesn't go 6-6 (where you can still easily not go to a bowl) with our schedule? 3-9 again - possibility. 5-7 or better - no way.
6-6 he's definitely safe. 5-7 Coyle has to make a decision if he thinks that Shafer is the longterm answer for his vision of the football program. Anything less than 5, I would think that Coyle will decide to move on and hire his guy. Just my opinion.

And how they look doing it

Young team with loads of potential

I get it. Personally, I think, since he seems to have done things 'the right way', HCSS would need to implode (4-8 or worse) to not get another year.

Yes, one bowl game won't be enough. He is coming from Boise, he has bigger ambitions for this programs.

I totally agree. The 5 win mark, to me, is that kind of that uneasy area for Shafer. In my opinion, if we win 5 games and Coyle knows he can get his #1 guy in here, thats the scenario that he would pull the trigger at 5 wins. If not then he's safe. But I agree, 4 wins or less he'll be shown the door.

Certainly possible. Wild card is Coyle - who knows what he is thinking...

But he isn't thinking about Greg Robinson, he is thinking I will bring in my guy and it will work out.
Yep, I get it. As I said in my post above, Coyle is really the wild card. Until we see how he operates at SU, we're all just guessing.

Of course, this is all a bunch of guesses. If I was the ad I would want to really make my mark and hire a really good coach.

Seems everyone missed the interesting tidbit about Scott Frost

I didn't.

Ok, I did. But I saw it the 2nd time I read it.

Just knowing that Coyle is an admirer should tell us all we need to know if he does find himself seeking a replacement.

Threads like this is a total waste of time. Does Thamel have some special power crystal ball that he can read into Coyles head.

I'm encouraged. If Shafer turns it around and shows Coyle something, he stays. That's good (esp if the offense shows promise). If it goes horribly wrong, Coyle picks his guy. And by all accounts Coyle is competent. And he's not Gross. And we are one of the best 65 jobs in the country, have ACC money, have a legit road to a championship (before you laugh - we're not in the AAC or some other crapbowl of a conference), and a new IPF.

Not one thing in Thamels piece refutes any of that, so still encouraged.
