That guy has terrible football instincts. Last year against Georgia Tech all he had to do was take a knee and they win. But instead they run the ball, fumble and lose.

Today, I still can't believe they attempted a field goal down 7 with three minutes left. That's the same thing that Coach P got burned for back in 2000. How on Earth do they not go for it with that electric offense? I will forever be thankful to him for helping us win. I would be livid if I was a Canes fan.

I think the thought behind FG was that Cuse would just run the ball, and their D was getting torched by Kyle, so better for him to hand off...

that didnt work out for him, but not bad strategy

Mario:
"We could go for it, and if we score, it's tied - but if we don't make it, we'd still need a touchdown. Or... we could kick the fg and still need a touchdown"
"Since there's only one scenario where we don't still need to get the ball back and score a touchdown, I think I'll not do that and just kick the field goal."

Bad math - especially the way the game was going. There was nothing in the second half that should have given him confidence that they'd stop Syracuse from scoring again or at least moving the ball down the field... and again, they'd have still needed a td. If your D is pitching a shutout or forcing 3 and outs all half then, yes, that might make sense to set yourself up for the win, I guess, but that was not the case.

There was a lot of time left, they had 3 TOs. and it was fourth and long. Not a terrible call or at all comparable to what happened against Ga Tech last year.
But you still need a TD either way. And we were having trouble stopping them the entire game, and they weren’t stopping us either. You can’t assume you’re getting the ball back.

I get it, but unless your inside the 5, I kick the FG there and go for a stop. I just dont think its egregious. Ga Tech was egregious

Take the shot. If you fail you need a quick stop and a td. But you might not fail

If you kick you definitely need a quick stop and a td

Then you need to win in overtime too.

I couldn't believe he gave us that break. I almost wondered if an SU fan hacked his headset communication and convinced him that was a good idea.

This falls under the that's good that's bad. What does your opponent want you to do? If your opponent wants you to kick the FG, it's a bad move. I was absolutely thrilled that they kicked it.

Yeah, that's the easiest quick way of thinking it through in the heat of the moment. Don't make the other side happy

Its an easy argument in hindsight. I think every NFL coach kicks a FG there. I suspect analytics says kick the FG. If they went for it and got it, we still would’ve gone down the field and scored. Let’s be honest, if I am the Miami coach, and cuse is in run situation, I’d be confident I could stop it, but they didn’t, and boy am I happy they didn’t.
