That last punt did it for me

All that would happen is we'd get more frustrated because the answer would be some dumb coach-speak statement about "you can't take the game away from the kids" or "we were thinking we could pin them deep/get a turnover" or "the defense had been playing well and we were confident we could get a quick stop" or some other nonsense we've heard before.

Look, it's as simple as this - these guys are hardwired to treat these situations a certain way. There's no such thing as "we've got nothing to lose" when they make these decisions. It never even enters the thought process.
hahahaha. It was exactly what you said. ugh.

Perhaps he thought our defense gave us the better option to score.
Reminds me of what Hall of Fame DT Alex Karras supposedly said in a long ago Lions Thanksgiving day game. Detroit's offense was almost as bad as ours this year. As Karras was coming off the field he said to QB Milt Plum "try and hold them".

I think that was Andy Robustelli to Charlie Connerly for the NY Football Giants.

If I hadn't tossed my copy of Paper Lion years back I could check my senior memory.

It's still a great story - whomever the defensive tackle was!
