That last punt did it for me

I've never been so pissed watching su sports then after seeing that punt. I've soured on this football program . I really tried, but I'm taking a break. Can't wait to hear reasoning. They had nothing to lose in this game, nothing. We acted like we were playing in Super Bowl with the score tied.

The last punt. Gave up. What?!

I must admit, if I were the AD of Syracuse University, I would demand to know why my coach would punt in that situation. It had nothing to do with the outcome, but he put a demoralized, tired bunch of kids back on the field that have been trying to cover for the garbage on the other side of the ball all year. Scott should definitely be accountable for that move.

He could have been worrying about the over? He just figured Pitt would have a better chance at scoring.

Finally coming over to the dark side Crusty?
As you well know, I have been a staunch defender of the staff not only because I think they are quality people and Shafer did a great job for us as DC, but I simply believe that every HC needs a reasonable time to develop his program.

I believe that this year is a write-off but there are enough non-injury related issues to seriously question if we have the people to build a real D1 offense.

Shafer is experiencing all of the OJT challenges and he has met some of them well and many others not so well. The thing that has been a constant has been the spirit of the team - they never quit. Shafer quit on them today and that gives me great pause.

I don't even know what everyone is talking about. I fell asleep during the game. First time in my long life of SU football, unless maybe one time when I had the flu or something. Just dozed off for the last hour. That is a pretty bad commentary on this program. Not even during GRobs years did I do this.

It was not the first time, just the most obvious. You know I think he gets one more, but I have no confidence that it will do any good for him, and I think SU can not afford very much more of this. I, like you, have been invested in SU football and other sports for a very long time so I place much of the blame for our current situation on previous administrators lack of support, however that can not excuse our current coaching staff. I see much wrong with this teams coaching. outside their talent or injuries.
I hope Shafer can make effective adjustments on those things he can control. From what I have observed I have limited faith in his ability to so do.

All jokes aside, Gross should get an answer for that.
That's all well and good, but I would rather have an answer as to why we are settled on this O-coordinator, we we are changing our recruiting philosophy (if that's what you call it) and ultimately why we are not looking for the best experienced offensive coordinator...

There is not justification or rationalization or that call - none.

It's also irrelevant.

I'm sure it was ISIS fault, or all those illegals that crashed our boarder.

You realize the ISIS comment wasn't shifting blame - but trying to put things into perspective (poorly)?

What would be the point? Is there any answer that would be satisfactory?

Short of Shafer telling me his wife was kidnapped, and he was told that if he went for it on any 4th down in this game he'd never see her again, I'd say no answer for the punt makes sense or is acceptable.

'This coordinator' McD, or Lester? Who did you expect to get in the middle of the season?

I didn't doze off during GROB years cuz I never watched. ;)

An observation might include Shafer's lack of attention in this matter. If its not defense he wanders off topic.

it deserves to be asked by the beat guys since it has happened in 2 straight games as he did the same thing vs Duke
All that would happen is we'd get more frustrated because the answer would be some dumb coach-speak statement about "you can't take the game away from the kids" or "we were thinking we could pin them deep/get a turnover" or "the defense had been playing well and we were confident we could get a quick stop" or some other nonsense we've heard before.

Look, it's as simple as this - these guys are hardwired to treat these situations a certain way. There's no such thing as "we've got nothing to lose" when they make these decisions. It never even enters the thought process.
