The Benson holding

After watching several times I can't see it well enough to make one single determination... when the defender pulled away was he holding onto Benson or was Benson holding his arm. I don't have the tools to amplify the image on the replay to tell. Given how bad some of the calls were I would lean towards it was a blown call and acting by the defender but can't tell 100%

This ref crew was not good. And it seemed like a one sided affair. Chalk that up to Schiano working them better? I never complain about refs but some of the big calls seem to all go Rutgers way which kills in a game this ugly/close

Schiano was on the field like 5 times screaming at the refs.. I still wonder what Dino could have said to earn a penalty since he doesnt really swear yet Schiano can be cutting loose the whole game..

I did like the one call where the ref missed the spot by 5 yds and dino ran down the field..

The RU defender probably would have reached the running back without the contact between the two, and it was before any real yardage gain

Without the contact the runner still might have busted it downfield for big yards , or he might have gotten tackled right there

It was interesting that Schiano was able to have a long and heated talk with the officials, without a penalty, while Babers got called for a tech, pretty much off camera and unnoticed
I would guess that Babers dropped a bomb or two, and why exactly did he do that?

I complain about the refs often...because they are often really bad. But I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite like what we saw yesterday. We stunk. So don’t be that guy and point out a bad play we made like “did teh refs make DeVito fumble teh ball”?? We stunk. Rutgers stunk worse. The refs more or less won the game for Rutgers. Harris fumble/Personal foul + Dino penalty. Completely flips the outcome. Absolute joke.

Definitely a back breaker no doubt. That said we can't blame the officials every game. At some points you need your offense, defense and special teams to make plays. By the way not saying you're doing that Upperdeck...just making a general statement.

Benson released before Tucker was close. You can see Benson's arms in the air as he stumbles due to the defender either having his hand stuck in Benson's jersey/pads, or was holding onto Benson. Regardless that should be a no-call since Benson did nothing wrong.

This "holding" call could have gone either way. Put us back at 1st and 16 I think. We then decided to run two HB dive in a row that gained one yard each. Terrible play calls in that situation.

Dino said he never used any profanity. He said as a player, assistant, head coach that this was the first time he ever got an unsportsmanlike penalty. He was still upset at the call in an interview after the game. He said he was asking what the initial call even was because being on the opposite side of the field , he couldn’t see it.

The broadcast zoomed in on probably two-thirds of Schiano’s rant.

I was impressed with his influence as the head ref first attempted to ignore him and sent the side judge to deal with him.

You can clearly see on the broadcast Schiano telling the head official to “Come here!” and pointing both at the ref and down at the ground near his feet.

I was impressed because it’s how I frequently speak to my 6 and 4 year old sons. And the ref, probably because Schiano was nearly 10 yards on the field, did as he was told.

It didn’t take a professional lip reader to know Schiano proceeded to repeat to the head ref, “That was bullshit!”

He ended his rant by repeatedly telling the ref, “Make it right, make it right.”

I kid you not the next play was the 3rd down where Rutgers OL was called for holding and a very late flag was thrown on our defense for unsportsmanlike (in the backfield).

As those penalties offset to replay the down, Dino (understandably IMO) walked onto the field in manner less hostile than Schiano had and was flagged to give them a 1st down.

This doesn’t excuse the horrific offensive display that ultimately lost the game.

I’ve never seen such an obvious display of biased officiating captured up close on tv.

The refs were not good, but in two games we have been flagged a bunch. Let’s see how we do next week

Yup. Sickening stuff. Schiano literally reffed the game, and they let him.

The “fumble” on Taj was an abomination. I knew from that point on, especially when he sat Tommy after the possession, that this game was going to hurt a special kind of hurt.

He was blatantly down

Supposedly he was initially ruled down, and then the refs changed it to being ruled as a fumble, and that's what was reviewed and that they didn't have indisputable evidence to overturn.

IT'S A BIT FISHY

Definitely, but Dino snowballed it a way that only a clueless in game coach could.

Someone in my group said “isn’t this what you wanted?”. When Garrett came out next possession.

Yes, but not like this. Awful.

Spots were an issue all game long...and it didn't favor us

I don’t know how many times I can say the officiating was the worst I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. Something was up, whether they’re on the take, or fixed or what but it was criminal.
I think they know who butler's their bread and it isn't Greensboro
