The Boneyard is really excited about dominating Holy Cross.

I heard the same BS when we won in 03- that Kansas "should've" won because one of their bigs (name escapes me) was injured. That the tourney was weak, which is why SU ended up winning with freshmen. etc. etc.
I have yet to see our banner pulled down or record erased because things weren't "perfect".
UConn won last year- thats ALL that matters. I doubt we'll look back in 10 years and say "that UConn team sucked, and the tourney was terrible...erase their records- rescind their NC"!!!
Yeah, makes perfect sense! :bang:
Uconn got a slap on the wrist from the NCAA last year, they get rewarded with a Championship. Awesome!

and this is different from post-cupcake blowout posts on this board . . . how?
Actually it is a bit different. We've had many threads that have been critical of the play of different players (Scoop, Triche, etc), during blowout wins.

This post made me laugh
"Quse is deep and big- the zone is a nightmare when you can rotate big players with length and keep them fresh. That said the biggest issue that will have as the season progresses is that they do not have a single player that looks like a pro at this point. (Oh lord please do not "bless" me with 10 posts from tool bag Quse fans explaining to me why they have 4 players that will be taken in the first round)."

Let's be perfectly clear here. Kemba had about 35 vs. us in the BET last year and took them OT to beat us. Calhoun has had some issues against the zone lately, and this years UConn team doesn't have nearly the shooters that other teams in the Big East do; they don't have a big man who will be able to school Fab in the post; they don't have a player that they can put on the foul line and make that jumper or make a pass out of it. They looked absolutely clueless against UCF's and FSU's zone.

Are they talented? Yes absolutely. But as they keep developing, so will we. I think people have the misconception about the age of our team. Waiters, Fair, Southerland, Melo and MCW are only gonna get better. We have our constants with KrisJo, Scoop and BT. People act like we play 9 seniors who have all hit their ceiling.

Prediction- Uconn will not develop like they think THIS year.

I hope UCONN looks "clueless" against other zones like they did vs. FSU since they shot 48% for the game and 11 of 25 from three.

Shooters? - UCONN 3 pt shooting is 2nd best in the league and that's with Boatright and his 50%+ from three having only played in 4 games.

Make a pass or jumper from the foul line? Forget Lamb, Orlander's been doing it.

I'll put Drummond, Oriakhi, Smith, Orlander and Daniels up against any front line in the BE. The fact that they're Jr, 2 sophs and 2 frosh makes it even more fun.

Did you watch the FSU game? The Seminoles did not play the zone exclusively, but when they did, UConn struggled, big time.

Yeah, he's 4/7 on the year in 3 games. Napier has been good from 3 this year, but in Atlantis he had some questionable shot selections, I counted 3 or 4 times in the FSU+UCF games where he dribbled past half court, and fired a 28 footer with 28 seconds left on the shot clock. Besides Napier and Lamb no one has made more than 8 3's for UConn all year; and besides those 2 no one is shooting better 33% from deep (jury still out on Boat).

Olander can hit that mid-range J if he's open. Fab + BMK have been really good this year about getting to that shot, moreso than last year. However, Tyler Olander is not gonna beat us by making a foul line jumper. His passing this year hasn't been to great either; so I love our chances with how active our zone has been to disrupt that.

Smith and Daniels combined are putting up 9.5ppg, 7rpg, about 40% from the field and 25% from 3 (they also average about 40mpg between the 2 of them). I understand Smith's role is more of a defensive stopper, but the dude has regressed from last year. Daniels has talent, but he can't dribble and can't create his own shot. And so far, Napier and Boatright haven't really got involved in the offense too much. Hell, Daniels hasn't had more than 6 points in a game since 11/17. Roscoe's last 5 games? 4/11, 9pts.

Drummond obviously is as talented as anyone in the nation. But is extremely raw right now (not to Fab's extent last yaer though). All of his baskets yesterday came on layups and dunks, which he should get vs. teams like Holy Cross. How will he do when he sees real big men? He won't be able to rely on pure athleticism vs. a team like Syracuse, he's gonna have to show some post moves, which I have yet to see so far.

Good points...one thing...Drummond shot 11 for 12 vs HC...he hit a turnaround jumper from about 10' and also had 2 spin moves under the hoop. Not that it matters. He looks like a completely different player since the mask came off. Or maybe it's just his confidence building.

About Napier and Boatright. What exactly do you mean by "haven't really got involved in the offense too much"??? 29 pts and 11 assists per game between them. Plus 8 rbs/game.

I can't blame them for being excited. So what that it's HC? It's not like they are really saying that they are great because they beat HC. I imagine the thinking is that they feel they've seen progress with their young team. Nothing wrong with that.

I think that team has as much talent as just about anyone in the country... unfortunately. And as much I as hear things about Calhoun being a less than likable person, he's obviously a great coach. People here make good points about needing to see how well their team develops throughout the year - I hope they do develop and I hope we paste them a couple of times.

Could they be better than us? Maybe... Are they now? Not that I've seen. But I am not going to get upset about their excitement for their team.

It's too bad both Cuse Uconn games are so late in the year. Be good to see one early Jan and then late in season.

I was referring to them getting Daniels involved in the offense. I forgot to add "him" to the sentence, good catch, my fault. My point was Daniels has talent and will definitely be an all-conference type player one day, but he hasn't shown the ability to create his own shot yet, so he needs Napier and Boat to get him invovled, which they haven't done recently. I think Daniels has the ability to be UConn's best pure jump shooter by March...

Yeah, Olander terrifies me.

Again, the limited memory of fandom.
One of the main reasons that we lost to UConn in the BET last year, was because of Olander's effectiveness in that "soft-spot" at the foul line. Any team with a big that can hit that shot will give the 2-3 fits.
We beat UConn earlier because they had no one who could exploit that shot. We lost to them in the BET partly because Olander became a weapon.
Also, UConn has a long, frustrating history of big doofy white guys, who give them what they need to be effective. Olander is a BIG part of that team- especially when it comes to beating us,...and shouldn't be so easily dismissed.

Exactly. Olander averaged 2 and 2 last year and had by far his best game of the year vs the Cuse in the BET. He's tripled his playing time this year and is averaging 8 and 6. The kid gets the most out of his "doofyness".

A team that lost to UCF does not beat us this year. They have a high shooting % because they have basically played a collection of division 2 quality teams so far.

Can they improve by the time we play them? Absolutely. However the only freshman that matters and can make large mid season progress is Drummond and I just don't see him being a big offensive threat.

Teams that will beat us are probably Lville and Marqutte.

Cuse's SOS is #15 right now. UCONN's is #22.

You haven't watched Ryan Boatright or Drummond play these last 4 games have you???

UCF???...You haven't figured it out by now. Jim Calhoun November teams rarely resemble Jim Calhoun March teams. Except maybe last year. Undefeated in November/Maui and March was pretty nice also.

nah, Jeremy Lamb and Kemba Walker (and the fouls called on our guys trying to guard him) beat SU in the BET. Olander hit a couple shots but that was certainly not what won the game. If Calhoun thinks its going to be Olander at the foul line that beats this SU team this year, I'll laugh.

We'll just see come March then, huh?
The cockiness you and your boneyard homies have with the likes of Giffey, Olander, Smith, Oriaki, and Napier compared to the SU supporting cast is humorous as hell though.
Uconn has exactly 2 NBA surefire players in Lamb and Drummond with a few others that may get a shot.
SU also has 2 NBA surefire players in Waiters and Melo with a few others that may get a shot.
I'll take our "few others" over your "few others" any day of the week.

Frankly, I'd love nothing more than to see UConn fail...and fail miserably.
But I've seen enough seasons to realize that what we see in December usually means jack-squat in the final equation.
Moreover, Calhoun & UConn have proved they usually are a force to be reckoned with at some point.
It just seems silly to me to make definitive predictions this early...just flat-out dumb, IMO.

Any team can beat us. The 03 team lost to a mediocre Memphis and Rutgers. They will get better as the year goes. Fortunately, I think SU will get better as well. I'm pretty confident we will split with UConn in the regular season.

We really weren't that good in '03. We got hot, when it mattered. Just like UConn last year.

Hmmm, I think we were 13-3 in conference. That's a pretty good year, and we had some great wins (at MSU, Pitt).

Calhoun is the new lead-spokesman for Depends.

"When I coached the 6 overtime game, I had to go so bad. Luckily, I was wearing Depends...I ate four cans of cwam chowda prior to tipoff. My Depends made me feel free and loose."

Melo? Fab Melo?? Sorta like he was a surefire BE rookie of the year last season??

Waiters has good size for a 2G. But needs to shoot a little better than 32% from 3 don't you think?
