The Development of James Southerland

I have sent your link to several of my friends who aren't on this board. Good work!

Nice work, well written. James has made tremendous strides every year, and is certainly a key member of the rotation.

james is a bust so is fab-how soon we forget-lol

love to see him playing without looking over his shoulder at jimmy-shows that he worked just as hard as fab and dion this off season on his game -team is loaded with kids who think like men

Based on what he's done his first two years, I am still surprised when he does the little things (rebound, score around the basket on a missed shot, dribble drive to the hoop, etc.). In addition to his obvious shooting abilities, he is making contributions that he didn't make at all last year. I feel really good for him because he obviously put major time in the off season into rounding his game out. I remember his hs coach saying that James is a very hard worker who will do anything he needs to do to be successful at SU. Good "foreshadowing" as my wife the English teacher would say.

James has always had nice form and a high release on his jump shot, length, and freakish, raw athletic ability.
I would like to read the inside story (from Hopkins) on how the coaches brought James to his current level -- doing some of his work inside, getting mid-range shots within the offense, helping on the boards, occasionally putting the ball on the floor.
It hasn't been an easy transformation -- James had a PG year, and two years at SU before he started to figure out how to use his abilities.
His dribble drive is still primitive. And that is the most intriguing aspect of James -- how much better can he get during his junior and senior years?

I'm glad you've all enjoyed the article. Thank you so much for your support. It means a lot.
