- We almost lost to Colgate for a third time in a row and this one was going to be the worst one. We fell behind early but worked our was back to 25-27 with 7:17 left in the first half. The Raiders went on a spine-chilling 5-27 run that looked as if it was going to completely crush us. It ended at 16:10 of the second half with a Naheem McLeod lay-up that started the comeback from 30-54. Colgate just looked like a team that, while not as big or athletic or as highly rated as recruits that just knew how to play basketball better. SU’s players looked totally clueless.

- McLeod has now played in the game that featured the greatest comeback in ACC history: Florida State 85-84 Miami (Feb 25, 2023) Game Recap - ESPN
And, tonight, the second greatest comeback. He didn’t play very well in either game. In the Miami game, he played 8 minutes, missed a shot, grabbed a rebound and blocked a shot. Tonight he was more productive, having made a shot, grabbed 3 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. But he played much of the time as if he was in a cloud. Balls would bounce to him and wind up bouncing off the floor and into the hands of Colgate players. Keegan Records totally schooled him, repeatedly getting in better position to score 17 points and pull down 13 rebounds. Naheem had shown an ability to catch passes and score inside but only got off one shot in 19 minutes. He’d also shown an ability to use his height to choke off drives without jumping. Records got him up in the air several times.

- Chris Bell ignited our comeback and led us in scoring with 25 points. He needs to get more than 0 rebounds and 0 assists in 33 minutes.

- We got out-rebounded 32-44 by a shorter, less athletic team. In the first half, we missed 20 shots and got the rebound on 1 of them. Most of the time, nobody was even going toward the basket to try to get an offensive rebound.

- Judah Mintz can take over a game but he plays as if he’s already done so when he hasn’t. There were times he just drove right into the teeth of the defense and didn’t know what to do. One time he had four men around him, which meant that his 4 teammates were being covered by 1 guy. He tried to jump over the four guys to get a shot off. It went nowhere and, at that point, so were we.

- The return of Bennie Williams hasn't started yet. 10 minutes, 0 for 4, 1 reb, 1 black, 1 foul.

Hopefully this teams rebounding will finally put to bed the false narrative that size and athleticism mean good rebounding. Rebounding is effort / technique / anticipation . That’s all it is .. that’s all it will ever be.

Braden Smith is, (allegedly) 6-0 and had 11 rebounds in 33 minutes.

Chris Bell is 6-7 and had none in 33 minutes. Benny Williams is 6-9 and had 1 in 10 minutes. Naheem Mcleod is 7-4 and had 3 in 19 minutes. Mike drop.

This could have been under a 5 point game at half.

At the 7-minute mark it was a 4 point game. Benny missed shots, Copelands not always going to get to swing the ball and jab step, Ill be looking for him to combine some back down game with his slashing the next few games. Some plays I like him driving first and Judah and JJ second after the kickout for this reason.

Your comment ... "Most of the time, nobody was even going toward the basket to try to get an offensive rebound."...is my biggest concern. I wasn't certain that was what I was seeing until I seen it repeated over and over. No way to grab a rebound on a missed shot when everyone is heading away.

Can NIL money be incentive based: A prize for the best rebounder in each game, etc.?

How about the most "Net Points"?

Amazing that this Colgate team barely beat a brown team that got destroyed by New Hampshire

Records has quick reactions and is savvy around the hoop. He often had his shot off before Naheem reacted.

Chris had a good game offensively. He took many shots and followed shots inside the arc. Yes, he has to rebound and get steals, but that was a pretty good game from him.

4-23 from outside.

After they started 8-15 in our 1st half, they've gone 5-32 since.

Well, downside is Colgate is terrible. Smacked by Yale

Colgate is not terrible they shot it poorly. We had a bad half and it was a game of overcoming more mental than physical. Yale got cold vs Gonzaga but was right there with them. They have experience and are solid.

The second half being 49-29 was much closer to reality in our game than the first half. It's over we won. Colgate will likely still win the Patriot league and lose in the NCAA 1st round.

The OP has some points. It is concerning they played so poorly for a lot of that game. They should have NEVER been able to get that badly outplayed…by Colgate… No offense…. Or anyone…..ever….

That is worrisome, I thought Red was gonna be a little quicker to change to the more aggressive M2M and press than Jimmy was…I think he will adjust and make those changes a bit quicker going forward. A lot of guys can play, run em out of the gym if you can. That set M2M D we have seen so far tho…that ain’t gonna cut it, not even close.

Yeah, it was nice to get the Colgate monkey off our backs but the Patriot League looks worse than usual. They're favored by 1 against Weber State today, somehow.

At least they covered, won by 2.
