Just outside of Crystal River Florida caught on live shrimp at the beginning of the incoming tide. We caught 5 this size, all of which have to be released. Anything over 27" must be released. This fish was 33"

What a great catch. I just started learning to fish the Florida waters around Sarasota. All my stream trout fishing experience doesn't help one little bit. The fishing is always good somewhere near though.

Don't feel bad. I had one of my employees take me out for the first time shortly after moving here in '93. I opened my tackle box and he laughed outloud. He told me to build a display case because all my gear would be useless down here in Florida. I had learned to do all my salt water fishing in Connecticut and did a good amount of fresh water fishing as well. I used to make the trip up to Pulaski for steelhead and salmon in the fall. The first time I drove up there it snowed 10" and buried my tent overnight. I fell in the river several times during the day and headed home skunked and exhausted. The next time I hired a guide and learned how to catch them.

I'll send you my tackle box. It could make you laugh or make you cry, but it won't help you catch Florida saltwater fish!

I'm joining the local fishing club. I have gone out twice with charter captains. We stayed in Sarasota bay and we caught all kinds of fish. I felt like I was part of a TV fishing program on their best day.
