I know many are upset with Fab and his apparent laziness and lack of intellect. However, isn't it possible that those very qualities are what brought him to SU?

In the Noel recruitment, we view SU as a favorite in part on our rational views of the factors involving friends, proximity, and role (Fab's spot vs A Davis'). But how did those factors look in Fab's eyes? Friends - no, proximity - hell no, role - not really AO was a totally different type than Fab.

In retrospect how much energy and thought do you feel Fab would have put into his recruitment? The deciding factor may have been that he likes Oranges - we just don't know for sure. Looks like he may have approached this whole recruitment thing like it was a big Spanish project.

And now the barrier of landing a 5 star center has been broken. The Igor-like myth that you can't have a defensive stopper in the zone feels like a distant memory. We are on the verge of an unprecedented run of talented bigs.

So yes, you may be angry that Fab is a lazy idiot. But temper that anger in the realization that it just may be those sloppy uneducated research habits that landed him here in the first place. And without his decision this whole elite level thing we are looking at may not have taken shape.

That is some weird, wild stuff.

I think Fab started smelling the money last fall after starting the season with a large upgrade over his freshman year. Dreams of bucks relegated academics to a much lower priority...speculation.

My guess is he is much more interested in income than he is in school.

Not sure I wouldn't have done the same when I was his age.

His thought process involving his choice of schools is anybody's guess.

You go to school to make money, period. That's what Fab did.

Maybe for some, you go to school to make money.

And if that was the case for Fab, why SU? Especially if entertaining early NBA thoughts. I don't think SU had a center in the league for some time, since maybe Etan. And no early bird centers.

I can see why Noel would come here. But I just don't see the logic behind Fabs choice. All as I can see is he had a wide open spot to start but that was probably available at a lot of schools. Certainly glad he came here though.

At one point after his most recent suspension, I read that Fab tweeted to his teammates "I have your back." That impressed me as wrong on so many levels.

1. His academic issues have hurt his teammates almost as much as it hurt him. A run to the final four and possibly a championship would have enhanced his reputation as well as the reputation of pretty much all of his teammates. In the case of those with NBA aspirations, it would very likely improve their draft status. Fot the others it still would have been a memorable experience.

2. If he has indeed blown off classes, it could result in APR consequences. This would be a significant hurt for the program and his teammates who are underclassmen: CJ, MCW, Josh as well as the recruits.

I don't see where Fab has anybody's back.

He was talking about if any of them need tables at Brazilian steakhouses in Milwaukee next year...

I started reading your post and was initially confused, and by the end, I started walking into walls and trying to drink a spider.

Needless to say, jcabskudgiucgjbsug.

I think people tend to forget that Fab's native language is Portugese, not English. He only picked up English from watching TV and going to HS in Florida. I don't know about you, but I would have a hell of a time doing college level work (even if it was "easy" classes) in a foreign language that I had only learned a few years before. I mean, there is a HUGE difference between being conversational in a second language, versus being able to understand the nuances that are expected of you to do college level work.

So THAT'S why everyone says he tries to slip "DY-NO-MITE!" into every conversation.

I think some of the anger issues may have come from (or been exacerbated by ) his experience here. Language issues can get in the way of communication. Maybe that impacted the girlfriend issue - you can get frustrated with nuance and sarcasm and innuendo in a language that is not your native tongue. Hard to say how tough it's been for him, especially the way he was handled the first year, when they embarrassed the hell out of him by pulling him a couple minutes into every game, like they've done with Christmas this year.

The NCAA tournament doesnt make a kid money unless he OS from a small school showing he can compete with the big boys. The NBA scouts watch every game you play and talk to every coach and school principal you ever had.
Think a 6-10 game run means you are a better player than you always were? How's Jeremy Linnet doing now? John Wallace, with a lesser team against better competition led SU to the brink of a championship. Still drafted late teens. BILLY O. never had real NCAA success. #3 pick.

Or it may have just been that he picked Syracuse because his name was on the building.

Fab hasn't been on Facebook, Twitter, etc. since he was declared ineligible.

"I am so angry, but I don't know how to tell her I want Wendy's for lunch...I am just going to rip off her turn signal, hoping she realizes its just low blood sugar. Ahhh!!"

He probably picked Syracuse because he like the coaching staff. He doesn't have any close family in the US. So he probably picked a school with a coaching staff he felt cared for him, and had his back.

I see what you're attempting to get at from the last statement of the original post, but the rest of the post is pretty ridiculous, as are a lot of other assumptions, I'm not even sure how to respond, or whether I should.

You go on to assume so many negative qualities of a person you don't even know. And why, b/c some media types choose to write articles in a certain way? And more importantly picked up on the 'story" at each breaking point. You hve absolutely no idea what events led up to either suspension. How about you meet the person and form your own views.

And one last point, I don't know many "idiots" that speak 3 languages (or was it 2?). Regardless, that fact alone discredits your ridiculous statements.

I know you're joking, but this also really did get blown out. The kid lost his cool, but didn't actually cause any physical harm to the girl. I'm sure no one has ever been in a similar situation, especially in college. And I also bet the same ppl that rooted for Melo to be agressive on the court hated him on this. You can't have it both ways. When you're forced to become more and more agressive everyday I'm sure it's much easier to leak out into "society."

It could be all on the coaching staff. And if so, great job. Seems to me, in retrospect so many other schools could have offered more. The difference really hit me by seeing the rationale for the factors going into Noel's decision.

This was the first big time recruit for the center position in a long time, maybe ever (heard about Forth but that was just Albany, maybe Rosie).

Kind of a weird selection for a guy who I think didn't intend on staying all four years.

Some posts on this site are going to be written with an audience of SU grads in mind. So for you and BernieCuse, who may not be able to keep up, let me apologize for the confusion.

I would like to suggest you read the threads involving your favorite socks, you could be a real contributor.

I am a Syracuse grad. I just think rambling, ill-informed conjecture is ridiculous. Additionally, it was a joke. Lighten up, Francis.

Fair enough...I'm just throwing some stuff out there. By doing so I have hit a nerve with a couple of people. Yes, it's pure conjecture, but wasn't meant to be mean-spirited.
