Every game he comes in now it seems he does something atrocious within the first couple possessions. He's been throwing up air balls, getting shot blocked, turning it over and fouling...and then goes sits down.

when was the last time a ball left his hand and something good happened?

IF the kid wants to stay and get an SU degree, great.
If he wants to stay and play, he needs to beg for a red shirt year. He needs a year away from games.
Personally, I think he needs to go elsewhere if he wants to play meaningful basketball minutes.

Not to pile on the kid, but the game just looks too fast for him, mentally. He's a scoring guard who doesn't have a size or speed advantage at this level and isn't anything more than averagely skilled in ballhandling and shooting. It truly is a shame that it hasn't worked out for him here, but that will happen. Reminds me a little of Josh Wright.

A huge mystery. It's like the guy we recruited didn't show up.

It was very telling that Hopkins was favoring Howard over Joseph with PG minutes when he had the chance. I was surprised by that and it tells me KJ will not be here next year.

Are you sure?

I've mentioned this before. Saw him play before he came to SU. He had a terrific mid-range jumper and was able to get to the basket and finish. I was sitting behind Kevin Ollie and he raved about Joseph. He said, "I wish they (Cushing Academy) would send some players like him (Joseph) our way." A friend of mine who was a ref for the game said to me afterwards, "That kid is a baller."

So, yeah, others thought Joseph had talent.

Yup. This guy was the HAND PICKED guard that the staff went after that year. They wanted him badly, pursued him hard, and turned away other highly rated prospects in order to bring Joseph in.

I don't think that even the coaches envisioned that he'd get thrown to the wolves last year after Ennis's departure, but they sure didn't envision Joseph playing worse than he did as a frosh, either. What makes the entire situation even more of a conundrum is how Boeheim praised Joseph's off-season work, claiming that he'd improved more than anybody on the team this off-season. Shocking regression.

He's worse than last year. I didn't think that was possible.

It seemed like last year there were at least some positive games to build on though - the Villanova game, both games vs Boston College. I hate to pile on, but this year has just been flat out ugly in every way.

I think its become a mental issue and that he is trying too hard to make something positive happen. I think he can make the pull-up jumper in the lane but he's been blocked/thrown the ball away when he has tried that lately. Maybe he should try and play aggressive d and attempt to distribute on o. He's a better player than he has shown lately. Also, it appears his attitude is still good based on this body language on the bench.

I usually will hold out hope for a kid to develop (late bloomer, needs to catch up with the speed, fix his jumper, add muscle, whatever the reason)...

But this year I've seen KJ make such poor decisions that it makes whatever issues he has that should be fixable, moot.

Just head-scratching decisions as though basketball is almost foreign to him as a structured game with strategy.

I hope I'm wrong, but he looks lost out there.

Melo Trimble was ranked right around the same level as Joseph (some recruiting services had Joseph higher) and he's probably the best PG in the Country.
UNC ended up with Joel Berry, who was around the 10th best PG in the class and hes averaging 12 and 5 shooting 37% from three and almost 2 steals a game. So while Joseph has been a bust, it wasn't just our coaches that have missed on him, it was everyone.

Geez people, although his progression appears to have stalled or regressed for now (no PT contributes to that), nothing like beating up one of your own! I sure hope he doesn't read this board. Give the young man a break.

It's halfway through his sophmore year and he looks worse than ever.

Which would be fine, if this was Marist.

He doesn't even look like a d3 player. It's actually insane.

It really is bizarre.

Don't recall ever seeing a guy regress like this [certainly not in our program].
