To me, Mookie's plight at SU has been somewhat of an enigma. He was a relatively highly regarded recruit and remember how most here (old board) wanting him over the other Jones we were recruiting at the time, Kevin, whom has had a solid career at WVA. I can't recall anyone as highly ranked at the prep level come to SU and basically just sit his entire career. I think part of the problem is that SU has played him out of his natural position. With his size, along with lack of ball handling skills, he's not a guard...but clearly a small forward.
So, I'm really surprised Mookie is still here...many lessor rated would've transferred out long ago...hindsight being 20/20, I bet Mookie had wished he had at that decisive & critical juncture...
Is he completely in the doghouse or is he hurt? He didn't even play last night in a complete blow out.
Odd Mookie stat. Just looked at the Media Guide. Mookie is 4th all-time best 3-point percentage shooter at SU (minimum of 100 attempts) with a percentage of .413.
Only folks better than Mookie are Monroe (.439), Roe (.433), and Wes Johnson (.418).
Trailing Mookie, in order, are Janulis, Wallace, Devendorf, Shumpert, Rautins and Hopkins.
Just found that interesting.. and surprising.
I'm a big Mookie fan. I'd love to see him on an uptempo team that shot a lot of 3s. At any rate, 'twould be nice to see what he could do given the opportunity.

Boeheim has said that MCW is not ready. He'll get some run against guys like GW, but when we play serious competition he probably won't.
We often have a guy emerge late in the season during the BET, and this year it could be MCW. Hope so.
But before then, I don't really see it. He has often looked lost against the better teams so far and again, JB himself says he is not ready. My guess is that he'll be brought along slowly and will play aghainst weaker teams. I don't see him cracking the rotation once the meat of the BE slate is upon us.
That is part of the problem. He is a little too slow to play guard in our 2-3 and a little too weak and unathletic to play forward well. In retrospect, SU was probably not a great choice for him basketball wise and in retrospect, Kevin Jones, a true PF, would have been a much better fit for SU than Mookie.Wow, that does surprise me. I wonder what position he was recruited to play... probably guard. The Mookster just never had the defensive prowess or quickness or rebounding skills or something besides shooting to get him out on the floor.
I think the choice there was Joseph vs. Jones. Not Mookie. Could be wrong though.
I think we've probably had some other players that would have sat for 4 years had they decided to stick it out and were also well regarded coming out of HS. Most transfer though, Mookie obviously decided to go in a different direction. I think for most people their life would have a lot of "what if's" from not transferring, but Mookie seems to be very comfortable with his decision. Good for him. He seems like a good kid.
My guess as well. He has demonstrated too much not to get atSaturday should give us a pretty good indication. Road game, quality opponent. I think he'll get a run as part of the first half rotation and then further PT to be determined by how well he plays and how well the other 3 play.
We'll see.
