The Official "Favorite Beer Thread"

Dales Pale Ale - Oskar Blues Grill & Brewery

Flower Power (IPA) - Ithaca Brewing Co.

Double Jack (Double IPA) - Firestone Walker Brewing Company

I have serious issues with IPA's. Anyone reccommend any other good IPA's?

You've probably had it, but I also like Harpoon's IPA.

Love the length of this thread. Also want to add I am a Molson Canadian guy. Haven't tried a lot of the beers posted in this thread probably because I am on the younger side and stray to the cheaper side of the beer fence.

Guinness is in its own class, though sometimes you've just gotta have some carbonation. So hard to narrow down. Stella and Becks are faves in the "easy to find at the convenience store" class. Dig on Harpoon IPA. Yuengling is my favorite "cheap" beer. Amstel (not light), Jupiler and Antarctica are my favorites that I've never seen sold in this country. Have often wondered why Amstel Light is so prevalent in the US while Amstel is nowhere to be found.

Glad to see edowd finally drop some sense into the conversation with Pilsner Urquell and Stella, both of which are rock-solid foundations for any occasion.

Ultimately, every last one of you needs to kneel before Franziskaner Hefeweizen. Go get some today.

This is amazing. Love Franziskaner.

When you've had thousands, it's tough to have a favorite. However, when I'm watching Syracuse games, I try to only drink NYS beers. Although in the last month, I've enjoyed many a Lagunitas Sucks Ale during the games.

And during the tournament, I normally pick up a 12 pack of Middle Ages beer (Syracuse's own) and drink one per half - hopefully I'll go through all of them as Syracuse cuts down the nets in New Orleans this year!

Menabrea. Italy is not generally thought of for their beers but this one is well worth the trip. Have only seen it once in the States.

I only drink beer in the summer. Then Blue moon and Black and Tan.
Usually will Drink Dry Red wines. Stags Leap Merlot, Old Vines Red Zin......

Oh man, where to start??? So many delicious beers out there J

If someone put a gun to my head and said I had to pick just one, I’d probably choose DogFishHead 90 Minute IPA. First time I ever had it, I didn’t know it was 9% alcohol and I drank a 4 pack of it, along with about 3 glasses of red wine. I did this while cooking dinner for my wife’s book club… my wife was, shall we say, mortified. I think Bayside’s wife was there to witness my drunken buffoonery (probably not the only time she’s seen that).

I love pretty much everything from DogFishHead. There is a tavern about 5 miles from my house and needless to say, my wife always drives home whenever we go there. Burton Baton is really good. They have a stout on tap now that is called Red&Black – 10.5% ABV, finished with a hint of raspberries and mint. I love it, although I can only drink one.

Young’s Double Chocolate Stout is awesome if imbibed infrequently. I like stouts quite a lot and Guinness is one of my favorites too. Bell’s Double Stout is really good as well. I used to like Sam Adam’s Cream Stout but I don’t think it’s as good as it used to be. I also liked their Honey Porter but it seems hard to find now. There was a pub in Ithaca that I lived above in the mid-90s that served Whatney’s Cream Stout. I LOVED this, but I haven’t been able to find it in years.

Lately I’ve been really into Lagunitis brewing company. I love their Lil ‘Sumpin’ Sumpin’ ale – it’s like a wheat/IPA hybrid, it’s awesome. So is their Maximus IPA, and their Censored Red. I’ve never had any of their darker offerings yet.

I really like Evolution IPA (#9). Very good. (I’m a big IPA fan if you can’t tell).

Probably my favorite ‘all purpose’ beer is Red Hook Long Hammer IPA. Guaranteed to get you long hammered!

Also a big fan of the Belgians – Hoegaarden, Don de Dieu (introduced to me by Jake!), most of the Omegang stuff. Tonight I’m actually kegging a Belgian Wheat I just brewed. Franziskaner Hefeweizen is also a favorite, although that’s not technically Belgian. I also like Aventinus.

Bateman’s XXX is another of my favorites, although hard to find now. Old Peculiar (mentioned earlier – I used to get this at a polish deli in Brooklyn, great for a sticky NYC summer day).

Excellent beer, if you haven't tried it St. Bernarus Apt 12 is along these lines and great as well. If you prefer a boozier style quad La Trappe Quad is the best IMO (formerly Koningshoeven)
Love St. Bernarus 12 always in the frig. You should try the St. Berarus christmas ale if you have not already, I think it is the best in there line

We probably drank at the same place. There was a little tavern on South Aurora where I had many Whatneys in the late 80s and early 90s. I can't remember the name but it was a few doors down from Simeone's.

I had some Anderson Valley "Winter Solstice" this past holiday season and I thought it was fabulous.

Not as exotic as many of you - but here goes. My favorite all year round utility beer is Becks. In the cooler weather, especially with a hearty meal, Bass Ale is great. In the summer I am addicted to Corona's with a lime. Yeah I know its fruit, but a guy has to take precautions against getting scurvy. Another summer favorite are any of the German Weiss beers. Stella on tap also works and the Sam Adams seasonals are a nice change of pace.

I have a sixer of Bell's Two Hearted at home right now. All my beer nerd friends rave about it. It's OK, but highly overrated IMO. I've had probably about 20 of the IPAs in this list and very few of them are amongst my favorite IPAs.

Lagunitas IPA and Founders Centennial I really like. Great Lakes Brewery here in Cleveland has one they don't bottle but offer at the brewpub occasionally called Rye Of The Tiger...ridiculous!

The place I'm talking about is called The ChapterHouse, it's on Stewart Ave. I do know that place you're talking about though, definitely went there a few times.

Love the dedication to home production and the wide variety of favorites--not to mention the double-banger fridge. Nice!

Have you sampled the Samuel Adams Noble Pils? I only had it once and was already well on my way that evening, but it went down very nicely.

I certainly hope you, JO'C, and other lucky DC denizens make time to hit the Brickskeller often. Damn, I miss that place.

yeah, Lagunitas IPA is really good (although I like Maximus and Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' even more). Founders Centennial I like too.

I've had Great Lakes a few times before - I go to Cleveland for work every once in awhile. They had a Pilsner that I liked (and I don't usually like Pilsners).

hard to nail one down...but anything Sam Adams is good. While I was in South Bend over the weekend I discovered a beer brewed in Indianapolis called Dirty Helen's Brown Ale. I made it the choice of the weekend. Very tasty.

Heh. I actually know the owner of the Chapter House. Great place.

Nice! I lived in an apartment directly above The Chapterhouse in 1996. Ironically, I was 'on the wagon' the entire time I lived there, although I used to stop in quite a lot to have a Sasparilla and hang with friends. I love that place.

yeah, one of my neighbors is a huge fan of the Sam's Noble Pils, so I drank quite a few this summer. Very good.

I haven't been to the Brickskeller in about 3 years. When I first moved here I used to go at least once a month. My wife said she thought they just closed though :(
