First let me say SS and his staff had a good game plan today and the team played really hard for 4 quarters. We played a lot better than I expected and I give credit to SS for that.

I really don't care about the debate post game. We lost and played a close game.

Now my question we are 13-19 how long will it take for SS to get his career record to .500? Can we be .500 by the end of next year? Will it take 2 more years? I ask because .500 to me is mediocre. If we can't get to .500 till 2017 then this staff gets treated like they took over a Gerg like program. SS took over a .5o0 team. I get we are now playing Florida State and Clemson but that would make a 6-6 team into 4-8 or 5-7.

I want to win games. I don't care who coaches the team to wins. I just want to win more games.

hopefully we win 3 of our last 5 this year :) but if it doesnt happen next year with our schedule 7 wins should be doable.

Should take away the FCS games if you want to be honest about the assessment.

We were 1-6, 4-3,1-6,5-2 for a record of 11-17 form 2009-2012 in the Big East. We were not back when Doug left, we were still trying to get there, and all the playmakers graduated with the staff that left in 2012. This is really the 1st time in years we actually competed into the 4th quarter with everyone we've played. Even in 2012 the Minnesota, and Rutgers games were a disaster, it looked like the team didn't come to play.
Next year should be an 8-4 year, or better.

As seen with Villanova those aren't necessarily gimmes for Shafer.
Which raises an interesting point. With all the debate about the guy's future, the single biggest play in his coaching career was a botched "extra point" by a lower division kicker.

Nova wins that game and the tenor would very different.

We play Notre Dame-N, USF, @UConn, Colgate
@ Clemson, @ Wake Forest, @Pittsburgh @Boston College
Florida State, Virginia Tech, NC State, Louisville

I don't see 8 wins next year. At best we will go 3-1 in the non-conference and I don't see 5-3 in conference play next year.

That's a set up post. You should know he likely can't get to .500 before 2017. If we didn't play another game that means we'd have to go 9-3 next year. Or even 10-2 or 11-1 depending on the rest of this year.

Context.

7-6 vs a tough schedule year 1
3-9 vs a tougher schedule with a SS made problem, lack of ACC caliber talent on O (QB especially), and injuries
3-8 wins this year with a young and very talented team all over the place

I think we win 7-9 next season and we're on the upswing. I think overall record is less relevant than "are we getting better" and "can we compete with anyone on the schedule"... If we're getting better Shafer's overall win percentage is not worth factoring in.

So we can't finish 4-8 or 5-7 this year. Please stop reading into my posts. If you want my opinion ask me. You have misread multiple of my posts to what you think. If you are curious please ask and I will clarify. If we go 3-9 of course we can't get to .500 that should factor into whether this staff is retained.

If I want to say something I will.

Good grief. Why?

FSU and Clemson will be breaking in new QB's. We showed today that we can compete with Pitt. NC State will be starting a new QB and are overrated this year, etc.

2nd year in this offense with Dungey, defense is already looking like a Shafer D (at least enough to think they are improving).

I think we could really take a jump next year. 7-9 wins.

This isn't factoring in whether another coach could do a better job with the talent being acquired. Are we getting better is such a low standard. Winning games is a way more relevant.

I think 7-5 be a major accomplishment next year. Our schedule is tougher next year than this year.

After 7 seasons Coach Mac was finally able to get above .500 win %. He was 38-36-2 after that season, poor guy would have to wait to season 8 to get to .500 if you took out the FCS games. Good thing we didn't fire him...

More context:

If Marrone stayed...

How many games does he win in 2013 with Hunt?

How many games does he win in 2014 without Hunt?

Going .500 is irrelevant if we get 7-9 wins next year.

Watson is a true Sophomore. He will be going no where. Florida State has a 4 star QB redshirting this year and has a 4 star QB commitment. They will have talent.
Next year we play at Pitt. I think NC State is likely a win next year.

That's why I added "and can compete with anyone".

Coach Mac coached in an Era without TV Money being huge and Syracuse played all of its games on TV or on broadcast. I don't find this comp relevant at all.
Why are we comparing Scott Shafer to Coach Mac?

Great question.

I think he'd do better because there would be continuation on offense system wise. But then the QB mess might hurt the win total for a bit.

Just making a statement about how you need to look at more then record. Clearly Coach Mac is a much better coach. I really don't care what era a coach coached in, you can make a point that you should not always judge a coach by just W-L record.

Good point on Watson. Really want him to move on ;).

Not every 4* guy works out.

Pitt's home field advantage is not that advantageous.

He is trying to tell me what I am trying to say and put my message down. If he had a question as to what I am saying he should ask and last week in another thread he wrongly did the same thing.

It's an internet message board. People are going to disagree with you. Don't take offense.

Telling people to not take offense on a message board is like telling a Kardashian to please try to ignore the cameras.
