The players

We lost by 7 to #11 on their court, without a starter.

That loss was not on the players.
It was like 75% was on the players, open layups missed, Jesse playing soft the entire game, bad over rotations to guard empty court versus players, that falls on the players. You can blame the zone for part of it, but that doesn’t excuse missing point blank shots

The players deserve credit for fighting until the end but UVA got up 20 and lost interest while we pressed and made a ton of substitutions as they wanted to run out the clock.

7 point road losses aren't created equal its not like we were ahead most of the game and then they took the lead at the end and iced it with free throws we had ZERO chance to win today.

Eric15 since I can’t reply to the game thread and we had a decent discussion going:

In 2005 we attempted a little under 500 threes. Last year we attempted almost 800. The game is evolving and is much more perimeter oriented. We have to evolve also or we will continue to struggle.

In 2014, 627 players shot at least 100 threes and made them at a 33%+ clip. That number SKYROCKETED to 682 last season. 188 players shot it at 40%+ on 100+ attempts in 2014, vs. 149 players last year.

2014 was the last time we were elite. I feel like I set the bar for ‘capable 3pt shooter’ pretty low, too. Could Boeheim not keep up with the evolution of basketball since way way way back in 2014 or does talent change things?

“Well, the good shooters shoot higher percentages now” might be the next logical thought. I looked at that, too, and nope.

I don’t mean to pick on you, I like you; this was just a convenient post to respond to regarding this.

Conclusion: We could beat teams with shooters all over the floor in 2014, we can’t beat them now. The coach hasn’t changed. The talent has.

Needless disclaimer that I somehow have to attach to every post now: Recruiting is a part of a coach’s job and our recruiting hasn’t been good. Duh.

Lost interest? That’s an interesting cope. I guess Pitt lost interest too?

It was a troll post based on the nonsense in the game thread. Just having some fun.

That’s really interesting stat. I’ll be honest, I would have never guessed those stats. There is one disclaimer though. They moved the 3 point line back after the 2018-2019 season. After moving it back, the 2019-2020 season and 2020-2021 season were the 2 lowest 3pt percentage average in history of college basketball at 33.3% and 33.6% respectively. That is another stat I would have never guessed.

Just goes to prove it isn’t necessarily going against better shooters. But the less athletic players playing in the zone. No doubt that the Syracuse player has become less athletic and less talented over the past 8 years.

Bell played 16 minutes shot 3-3 and other than the 5 personal fouls put up ZEROs in every other statistical category. No rebounds, no assists, no steals.

This is why you start your best guys, we were -8 with jba, the bs narrative “it only matters who finishes” is ridiculous.

I also don’t get why we adjust at half time or when the game is “out of reach”.
