Okay, this is going to sound like the old guy screaming for the kids to get off his lawn, but what the paper did to its staff is horrific. Its now affecting my enjoyment of following the program.

It used to be one of the most enjoyable parts of a win. Reading the Sunday paper. It used to have the main story, a couple of sidebar angles on the performance, usually a bunch of statistical analysis and some quirky blurbs - plus Bud's pontifications.

This morning, I get a main story by Cohen that was decent. A story by Mink on how it was a mis match and Bud's thingy. That's it. So I go online to search for more stuff...and I come across this masterpiece.

4 and half minutes of Nate and Mike rehashing the same concepts, with the added bonus of this being recorded in the basement of the dome, with no microphone while the cleaning crew is running a vacuum in the background. This is what its come to.

Last year, I got an offense, defense and special teams breakdown from Dave Rahme - who had access to Marrone's game plan prior to the game, and then Rahme would write about how it went - right, wrong or otherwise. It was awesome.

Today, I get Wayne and Garth talking to each other, accompanied by Schnieder on the Dirt Devil. Its amateur hour over there now.

Couldnt agree more. For about 30 years I would always look forward to the in depth coverage of the previous days game and then we get this. I mentioned this morning that this was awful considering it was a HOME game that ended around 7:00. We actually decided to only subscribe to Sundays as this was the best day to get the max football and in winter basketball coverage. sadly those days have passed.

I have completely soured on Cohen. He produced some great stories while at the DO, where he must have had some editorial guidance that SMG can't afford to provide. Most of his articles I've seen of his in the past few months have been baiting, overly opinionated and choppy. It's a shame because he has the skill set to be a great writer and reporter.

Nate Mink's stories read similar to the articles I used to see in my Weekly Reader back in third grade.

Stayed in Syracuse last night and was looking forward to the P-S and a great cup of coffee this morning.

The coffee was pretty good.

As bad as the post game coverage is, the preview may be worse. Friday's edition on line had a downloadable PDF in previous years with full rosters, a position-by-position analysis and things to watch for. This year there is virtually nothing.

Dave and Donnie, we miss you...

Ha you must have just posted that while I was writing mine. :)

That's okay. I'm flattered to be having the same thought as you at the same time...old timer. :)

I love the headline about Floyd calling the IPF a "Necessary Need." The subtext is "Stupid football player from Syracuse uses redundant phrase to describe the indoor practice facility." Aholes.

I agree with you, but Mink and Cohen are just the latest consequences of a much larger problem.

Sometimes I gripe about what content is there, but this is just the way it is. I find my coverage elsewhere.

Honestly, there are posters here that can and do give a better recap and analysis of the games.

One other note, I grew up in the Binghamton area reading the press and sun bulletin. While not the WSJ or NYT, I would always enjoy reading it. Now I go to press connects.con and its terrible. AND, there is paywall after a very minimal article limit (which is fine, I only go there in rare instances).

the post was still making money when they decided they needed to make even more.....looks like that ain't going so well now.

the first time either one of them walks in and ask for a pay raise will be the last time they walk in:)

The big shots calling the plays at Advance are doing this with all their papers, and it's maddening.

I guess we should have bought more papers back in the day.

The Cohen article about Allen this morning was a new low--completely disgraceful.

Kid has no tact, nor talent. He won't last long here.

Conversely, the DO articles are of much higher quality--no surprise there.

It's a new world.

Sometimes change isn't for the best

Cohen's coverage didn't bother me until the article yesterday about Hunt's great game. I felt like it completely disrespected Allen who, even if you soured on him as a player, he DID choose our program and was expected to shine. We owe him some respect as one of OUR team and I didn't feel Cohen went far enough to demonstrate care toward one of our own.

Agree 100%.

It seemed like he went out of his way to denigrate the guy. It left a sour taste in my mouth.

This is what happens when you go with young, inexperienced writers who are trying to make a name for themselves. Webb and Rahme were perfectly content to finish their careers in Syracuse. The new breed are looking to make their mark and move on.
