- Job3 is Job Done. It didn’t look good for much of the afternoon but we came back and got it down and now we are 3-0 for the first time in 24 years. When you beat the teams you should beat, you stay on schedule.
- We've already matched last year'a victory total with that goose egg still at the end of our record.
- Shafe’s attitude in the press conference was priceless. All that talk of talking them one at time and focusing just on this week. This guy wanted three and oh so much it was coming out of his pores.
- Winning this game took guts. When you’ve been badly out played and had to go with 2nd, 3rd and even 4th stringers, when defeat seems almost inevitable, you find out who you are. And this team had the guts to make the plays to win the game.
- Hero #1: Ron Thompson who crushed a third and goal play from the SU 1 in overtime for a three yard loss that forced the field goal attempt. He’d earlier gotten a sack-fumble in full Dwight Freeney mode to end another Chip drive.
- Hero #2: Jamal Custis who reached over the defender’s shoulder to catch the TD pass from Wilson to make it 24-10. Any victories have many heroes, including many the fans aren’t were of, but those two plays were gigantic and far from easy.
- We are an incredible +7 in turnovers after three games. The Dwight Freeney team of 2001, which was out-gained but 10-3, was +15 for the whole season. Knock on wood, (I’ll use my forehead), we’ve fumbled only once this year and recovered it, (despite using four quarterbacks, three running backs and two centers). We’ve forced 8 fumbles and recovered half of them. We’ve also picked off 5 passes and taken two of them to pay dirt, (vs. 2 picks the option got that haven’t hurt us).
- We certainly lost the air battle in yards and first downs but we wound up with as many TD passes, 2-2. And we out-rushed the Chips, 165-90, averaging 5.5 yards per carry to 2.3.
- Riley Dixon boomed 6 punts an average of 48 yards, four of them winding up inside the 20.
- I said before the season that in this era, you’ve got to score 30 points to beat an average team. Three games and we’ve scored 30+ in all three, (exactly that in the last two). 3-0, baby!
- We had a 62 yard pass play, a 31 yard run, a 36 yard run, (combined for Dungey and Fredericks) and a 66 yard punt return called back for an unnecessary clip. We’ve had ten plays, (that actually counted) of over 30 yards this year, (including Donnie Simmons’ 40 yard pick six) in three games. This is an exciting team, (when we have people healthy). We are no longer a model T in the Indy 500. This team is worth coming out to see!
3-0 with 9 or 10 to go!
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!
