- Wins are bronze. Conference wins are silver. Conference road wins are GOLD.
- We continue to win games we would have lost in past years.
- We’ve tied our best start ever at 20-0.
- JB was angry with his player’s for their lack of rebounding after the Pitt game. Since then, we have dominated by a total of 94-59. Duke is also killing on the boards and Saturdays’ game might be decided there. These last two games certainly were.
- Tyler Ennis is our “indestructible black box”, (remember the Stephen Wright joke?). If the rest of the team was made of that, we wouldn’t just be undefeated. We’d be invincible. When we are in trouble, he just takes over the game and we win. He had 16 second half points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a game where not a lot of shots were being made.
- Rak Christmas had a terrific game in the 20 minutes he was able to play: 6 points, 7 rebounds, (3 offensive, which JB had been complaining about) and 3 blocks. He has become an inside scoring threat as well as a good defender and capable rebounder. We are now a 5 man team when he’s out there.
- But we are a 5 man team with Baye Moussa Ketia, too. He’s out of his early season funk and looking like the active player we remember from last year. Tonight, he had 6 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks in his 20 minutes. Our centers thus gave us 12-15-8, almost a triple-double. (Of course one more foul and they would have a triple-double on that.)
- Jerami Grant had his own double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
- CJ Fair struggled but got to the numbers we need from him: 16 points, 8 rebounds. He also had 3 steals.
- We struggle on offense at times but we can play defense for 40 minutes, During the 8:56 in which we couldn’t hit a field goal, we were out-scored 4-10. Wake’s starting back court was 2 for 11 and scored 7 points. Travis McKie, perhaps their best player, was 1 for 8 except for that shot at the end of the half. They had one player who hit 50% of his shots and that guy scored 9 points. You are never out of it if the other team can’t score.
- We haven’t played a game that would beat Duke the way they are playing and we haven’t even played particularly well in recent games. There’s a sense of dread in those of us not yet drunk on Orange juice. But I have a feeling that this team has a 40 minute game in them and they will produce it Saturday. We are due for a “Wow!” game.
