Reminds me of 2002-2003 but better. The 2009-2010 team was dominant and had a superb inside outside game but at times lacked the in between game.
This years team has the makeup and approach of an NBA team. The defense is dominant and intelligent. They execute quickly in the fast break and have the awareness from help defenders to allow them to gamble with minimal risk.
Fab's gone after this year IMO - He already can move his feet to stop the drive, stand his ground to take the charge and aggressively go after the ball when a shot goes up. On offense he gets better position every game, he is starting to slow down and progress to looking for the short jumper, going up quickly but soft enough to get the shot to drop and elevates for the dunk in a hurry. His recovery on defense is stellar. Thabeet was all size.. Fab is size, skill, intelligence and athleticism. He will only get better and you can see he is starting to comprehend things so so quickly.
On offense this team just attacks. Joseph and Dion attack off the dribble against MTM, Fair attacks to get a mid range J as does Triche. Scoop uses the pick and pop or a quick pick to get to the paint and finish and finally southerland is a great catch and shoot or pick and pop guy. Much like 2002-2003 this team can get red hot driving and dishing from the outside, attacking off the dribble or going inside/using the mid range. Defensively - the only way to play Cuse is to play amazing help defense and rebound the heck out of the ball. Add to that dont turn the ball over or take bad shots. NC State did this for spurts and it treated them well... as did Florida. Doing it for 40 minutes is very difficult.
Scoop becoming an emotional leader and role player instead of the "guard" and handing the torch to dion has really been amazing. The frosh offer a lot as well. MCW has amazing vision and just knows how to play. Rakeem is an up and down guy... in some ways he reminds me more of Hak as a frosh.. not really Fab. He is ahead of where fab was but like Hak.. was aggressive in spurts but still very much learning. He is huge in that he can play the 4 or 5, is an excellent finisher and gives us depth up front. Baye is all energy and plays really hard. His hands suck but his length is great. He also is a nice garbage guy. This team is loaded with role players and 1-10 commit to defense 90 percent of the time. Dion is a star. You need a bucket.. you go to dion. Next guy for that is Kris.. or then scoop. But yet.. CJ can do that too... Seth Davis is wrong. This team is not too many role players.. its just unselfish because there is not a need to be selfish.
Ok back to my point.. this team wins because they attack in waves, but they are organized waves. Never have I seen a team roll 10 guys on the floor and be able to make it work. 10 guys.. all with Chemistry is stellar. I think that we have yet to see the real highlights from this team this year. Against the more talented teams we may hit dry spells.. but will be in the game. Also this team has a killer instinct.. the type of instinct that has me thinking.. every BE game will be showtime for this group. They want it.. enjoy playing together and know they can beat anyone if they work hard. 09 -10 was good... this team is better. They have the team version of the individual excellence from 2002-2003.. and ultimately team is better than individual.
