There's no reason to think this team cannot go 10-2

Who's saying he ends up throwing more than he did?

Bailey could have been more involved in the passing game without it requiring us to throw more had the staff made different personnel choices.
if you give bailey fewer carries and don't give the backups more carries, guess what, you're throwing the ball more.

durrrrrrr

I would love 7-5. I really want to get to a bowl to get some momentum going into ACC play.

Could this years USC game be Coach Marrone's equivalent to Coach Mac's win vs Nebraska?

I'll admit, I was born in 1987, so I odn't know much about that team, where they came from, or if Nebraska was deemed to powerful for them. I've heard people say that ushered SU into it's glory years. I see a bit of a parallel if that's the case.

The Nebraska game revealed the progress that had been made.

But the pay-off was still be three years away.

Building a college program takes time.

I'll settle for winning the Big East, or Hell, an above .500 record in the Big East.

Yes, Nebraska was deemed too powerful. They were #1 in the polls, and had been for the entire previous season. SU was in rebuilding mode under Mac -- his fourth year. I believe SU started its season 2-1, but was coming off a loss at Rutgers. Mac had sharply improved recruiting (his true frosh and RF on that team were later to do big things); he had built a decent defense and had good OTs in place (Marrone was one of them). The Dome was packed and loud. Mac was a good motivator.
SU won that game with defense, ball control under an experienced QB, passes to possession receivers, and some luck.
Can it happen again?

...and they had beaten us 63-7 the year before on national TV in an era when getting a national televised game was rare.

you're really reaching if part of your argument against marrone is that any of bailey's snaps should go to a fat 18 year old

they needed everyone of those carries against Toledo and Wake

their two closest wins of the year were two of the games where he got the most carries

but hey they should've lost those games just to get aam more carries and then they would've beaten USF and Cincy

righhhhht

the myth of bailey breaking down continues

I liked Bailey, but one thing I realized last year when given the ball as much as he was, he fumbled too much. For last year, I don't think there was a good solution for that, because as has been discussed all across the board in this thread, there weren't any other options (out of shape and true freshman AAM just isn't a good solution to me).

This year, I really hope that with a new, slimmer, older AAM, we might have other options if the starter is hurt, or the starter fumbles too much. Maybe we've been spoiled, but it seems like SU for at least back to the late P years, hasn't had any chronic RB fumbling problems. Until last year.

[quote="RMH44,

Agreed...and who were our #2 & #3 WR's? Chew and Graham? Chew was stifled by injuries the entire year and Graham saw the writing on the wall (underclassman taking his PT) and fled. And are we talking about the same FB that missed the last half of the schedule due to concussions?

Yeah, for as many issues as Sales may have had in his career at SU, I will take him as replacement over Chew or Dorian any day of the week. 2 legit starters, I don't know yet how good the 3 thru 6 guys will be, Kobena is the one who's probably the most key.

I am worried about the OL though. Not in the future, but now. Seems too young at this point.

Overall, agree with you that we probably have our best conditioned team than we've seen in a long long time.

we were tied for 9th in fewest fumbles last year. we were 46th in fumbles lost. bad luck.

bailey was 25th in attempts.

we were 113th in fumble recovery percentage. that's mostly bad luck.

i think his fumbles came at really bad times but overall, we didn't fumble that much and bailey had the ball a lot so he couldn't have been that bad.

I can't wait to watch this D. I think the D wins us a few games this year.

Like I said, maybe we were spoiled. I think Delone fumbled once his entire career. How many fumbles did Anwton have? I just know that at some point, probably the middle of the season, I started to worry every time he carried the ball. I can't remember ever doing that. I don't think it was because of overuse, by the way.

I would've never guessed this but in 2010 were at the bottom in fewest fumbles (in other words we fumbled a lot) 102nd.

2009 we were 91st in fewest fumbles

i think this factored into marrone not running nassib much. i don't have individual fumble numbers. if carter never fumbled, someone had to
