I had completely forgotten about it until last night, for the reason Marsh describes above.

I don't remember it either. But if it appeared and disappeared as fast as everyone says, wouldn't surprise me if I (and others) missed it. Just out of curiosity, would it have been bookended on either side by the NC and the ACC fiasco?

I have debated bringing this up again, but I had posted back in 2003 that I had heard a rumor about one of the asst coaches (can't remember if I mentioned Bernie or not) & wanted to see if anyone had heard similar. My wife at the time worked at the Marx and ESPN interviewed Bobby Davis there. Someone from the Post-Standard in fact saw my post; tracked down my local phone number to see if they could get more info from me. Nothing more came of it, so thought it was proven false. Imagine my surprise seeing it pop up on the ESPN scroll last night.
