This defense is for real

17 pts allowed. Of 113 yds rushing, 89 came on two plays. Gave up 24 yds on the other 23 rushes.

Need to get Coleman, Black, Cordy back for the last 3 or 4 games
I'll tell you what's for real, when Cuse and Clemson win out... ACC Conf. 'Chip game.

No, but seriously, what a monumental improvement season for the D. Last night, the real Orange BEAT the defending National Champs. From whistle to whistle. Getting healthy after Miami is huge for the remainder of the season.

Don’t see a lot of “You can’t play the Tampa 2 with Syracuse level talent and win” posts.

Ward called an excellent game. And Paris Bennett is one of the easiest kids to root for.

He’s been fantastic and will be missed big time.

They’re bigger, faster and they can tackle.

So many plays last night where I thought last year that goes to the house for 6.

Ward has to be feeling pretty good. Good for him.

In the post game Dabo said we played a pretty vanilla defense (he said it was cloud three, whatever that is.). Our blitz packages were really savvy.

Of course the Dome helps. As Dino said in his post game:

"We have a Dome. No one else has a Dome, neener neener neener!"

The timing on our blitzes appeared to so often be in synch with their snapping of the ball. I've never seems a SU game where we able to make that happen with such regularity. Credit to us, and maybe their young QBs got too predictable.

We kicked their butt in every area of the game, and it's not like we were getting gifts from the zebras.

We legitimately looked like the better team.

The D played very well and although there was a lot of space in the beginning given to the Tiger receivers SU tightened it up. SU played the run and Clemson came out passing and the adjustments made by the staff and players on SU were subtle and excellent. The good tackling in space was huge. The DL was a pain in the Tiger butt the whole day and worked hard the whole game. I'm curious on how the substitution went on the DL because they looked hungry and aggressive all night.

The improvement in solo tackles and open field tackling has been huge IMO.

And no one was getting run over, even the CB's. Our backfield, even with a couple blown coverages is soooooo much better this year, particularly on WR screens and open field tackling.

I worry about a step back with the loss of the linebacking trio, but I think the gains the DE's will make with another year of strength training will offset those losses some.

Zaire had one of the best timed blitzes I've ever witnessed, right up the middle. He was in the backfield as their QB was still dropping back to hand-off/fake. It was as if he knew the cadence. Just beautiful.

They do everything right. Pick a simple defense, spend more time on offense, be good on one side, great on another

I never get this idea you have to sacrifice one for the other. You might build your game plan and style around the better side but not sure what time has to do with it.

Limited time. You're not going to be great at both. They only teams that are so it with talent we'll never have.
