Enough of the tommy is young and needs to learn, i get he doesn't have aton of game experience but he certainly has enough, this is his third year at syracuse, dino is not like dan enos at miami and won't call out players by name, he has even defended devote a few times when the press has pounced, but to act like he's played well this season is wrong. Today he was not the problem but he certainly was not the solution, watching the game and then seeing his stat line I was shocked, being behind from the start led to a lot of passing which helped that, but at the end of the day the offense scored 20 points, and had drives they did not finish. Treat him the same way everyone did dungey in his 3rd year at syracuse. So far I have been unimpressed by devito this season.

After the interception I felt like he played pretty well and settled in. Yeah, it would have been good to see him attempt something on those 4th downs, but he made some nice passes and seemed to get a lot more comfortable.

There are things he'll continue to work on, but I think he made strides today.

Devito has plenty to work on but he's not the main issue at this point. The OL, LBs, interior D line and Wrs are bigger issues at this point. Tommy has to do a better job understanding down and distance and the fact that while he is no where close to the runner Dungey was sometimes he is going to have to scramble and turn it up field and lower his shoulder. To many times he just runs to the sideline as fast as he can or throws the ball 3 rows up on 4th and 5. Also we need to either force him to keep the ball on some RPO's or abandon running them because giving the ball to the back 100% of the time is not going to work at any level especially D1.

We won the passing game vs. Maryland, and TD's stats were very good.

Pocket feel/presence is a big issue, IMO.

so by the beginning of dungeys third year he had played in 17 games and started something like 16. this is tommy's second start. this post is so garbage considering our vaunted defense gave up 650 yards. 650. our left tackle looked like a fat kindergartner out there. this post is so bad.

He moved in the pocket pretty well. It was tough when #4 kept blowing past our tackle.
Only big issue I saw was when he got stripped from behind, overwise he did fairly well dodging the first guy.

I am hoping some of that will come along as the season goes on but ya right now its not great. You can see the talent, its more then evident but sometimes when the play breaks down a bit or the pressure comes in he looks like he's not sure what he wants to do or makes the wrong decision for down/distance.

I'm reading these posts, saying "guy is fine", "he's not the issue", etc. Problem is, the offense put up 20 points, and turnovers led directly to 14 points against.

Any how many of those yards came after the score was 28-7?

Should improve with reps and hopefully better line play. Eric got ripped for poor pocket presence and moving too early. The difference is he often still got positive yardage.

I’m beating a serious drum here but losing dungey’s rushing ability is absolutely enormous.

Agreed - I think when you say that he's uncertain, that's a great way of describing it. He looks hesitant at times when the pocket breaks down, which exacerbates the issue.

Yeah, maybe because he isn't supposed to have a 300 pound DE one yard away before he can even complete his drop

Yup you can tell he's thinking about it to much, just doesn't have that natural feel yet of OK throw it away or take off or find the check down etc etc. Its like letting a kid out of the car for his first Halloween on an enormous block and he doens't know what house to run to first. Also doesn't help that our young LT was abused most of the game, though I thought the protection did get better in the 2nd half.

Defense was the issue. Anyone who wants to blame tommy is wearing blinders

Nobody is blaming Devito for the loss. Defense was unspeakably bad, offense was bad (again), and the ST sucked too. To top it HCDB and staff were badly out game-planned and out adjusted.

I think that most would agree that the game was over at half, when it was 42-13. At that point, the offense's turnovers led to two relatively short TD drives for Maryland ...so our offensive point output for the first half was -1.

People watched our OL, half our wideouts, our safeties, our linebackers and cb’s today... and still single Tommy out?

He’s the quarterback. It’s THE most important position in football and in all of sports. They are always singled out. Good, bad, or indifferent. It’s just the way it is.

He did turn it over twice back when it could've mattered. Considering how bad the d was that wasn't helpful.
Yeah timing of turnovers is huge! Why stats can lie to you!
