This one is for the zone stinks dummies (those few left)

I* wasn't talking about Crocker specifically, but just about any very good guard. You can't go all that far out without paying the price for it.

This business about man-to-man being all that better at shutting down a hot outside shooting team is IMHO a myth carried forward by TV announcers who never played or coached. If m-t-m is any better, its not all that much better especially against the extended zone that SU plays.

Agree. If guys are knocking down contested shots, it doesn't matter what defense they're facing.

Go watch some college basketball this year. A TON of teams are using the zone now. Duke uses the zone. Pitino and Louisville uses more zone than they have before. Georgetown runs zone like half the time. I've seen UConn running a zone. You think this has a little to do with how prolific Boeheim's defenses have been since 2010?

As for the "Boeheim struggles getting to the final four" thing, here is the list of who has more final fours since 1976:

Coach K, Dean Smith, Roy Williams, Tom Izzo, Denny Crum, Rick Pitino, Bob Knight, Lute Olsen, Jim Calhoun, John Calipari, Jerry Tarkanian.

Everyone ahead of him is an all-time great. It's not like this is something any decent coach does.

And 7 other coaches have been to as many ff's as jb since 1976. Larry brown, howland, jt2', donovan, eddie sutton, Steve fisher, and nolan richardson. So 18 coaches have been to as many or more ff's than jb over that time span, and many of them have coached far fewer seasons.

We're the #4 team in the country and haven't played anyone in the top 20. Where would you expect our stats to fall?

So, ignoring that those who don't favor the zone don't necessarily believe it can't be effective, but dislike it for myriad reasons, consider among the "dummies" people like Coach K, Brad Stevens, Izzo, Roy, Calipari... essentially, every other coach.

It may be easy to project simplemindedness, but you should try to resist the urge.

Nice use of the triple negative - most can't pull that off.
