Regardless of rankings, I have stated before and will state again that this will be one of the best classes we have had in a decade. The vast majority of these kids had other BCS offers, reported or not. A lot of these kids blew up their senior season, and we are witnessing a battle with some bigger names.

Obviously we lost Brantley to Mizzou. One kid that hasn't been mentioned but completely blew up was Jason Emerich. He had PSU, Pitt, WVU, MD, and RU come sniffing around but he said thanks but no thanks. Marcus Coleman also had a great year, with RU and UCONN sniffing around. Wayne Morgan (fingers crossed) went from underrated to overrrated to underrated before blowing up at the Semper Fi game. Even Ben Lewis, who was probably the kid that most of us said "who?" when he was offered, even dominated this year. And it was Dontez Ford, not Deshawn Rippey, who was the best player on Sto-Rox's field during the WPIAL playoffs.

This doesn't include Whigham, Manley, McFarlane, etc.

My point is that this is the most BCS class we have had top to bottom in quite some time. I don't see any Chaz Cervino, Matt Hale, Charlie Copa type kids here.

Only time will tell.

Not by you, but these types of posts have been made for every class since the start of time. There will be some stars in it, there will be some contributors in it and there will be some duds, just like every class. To me, it seems like the same class we have every year seemingly. It will all come down to coaching and coaching these kids up and them staying in the program. While the star system can be jaded and questioned at times when discussing a specific kid, it works better when doing a view of complete classes from 10,000 feet. Big picture, even this class is middle of the pack at best. There are more and more good kids. Kids are getting bigger and they are getting faster. So while we may be getting bigger and faster than we were 2 years ago, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, I fear other schools are doing the same and it's all a "in relation to" thing. We have to get out of this 50-60 recruiting class range and start pulling in some top 30 classes.

Doom and gloom yet again.

Agreed if and when we pull the trigger on our upgrades and if we have a decent year and Doug gets and extension coupled with the ACC hype and we could be in for a very good run starting in 13

Doom and gloom yet again.

What is doom and gloom? That we don't have a top 20 class? Saying it is a great class isn't going to make it so. Like I said, coaching will have a big roll and only time will tell. This staff has done a great job with some kids that weren't studs.

Damn straight.

like you said bigger, stronger, faster kids are coming here...you cant teach those 3...but what I am counting on from Doug and Co is coaching and putting them in the right spots to succeed.

This may be true to some extent, but I don't think it holds up when we look at where we were when Marrone took over.

Exactly, we are catching up to everyone else...

Long way to go, but you can't get there all at once.

Even in our heyday we weren't pulling in top 30 classes - maybe once. We need kids that have BCS size and speed regardless of stars.

Sorry Bees, but I'm with some of the other guys on this one.. I've seen you make posts that suggest the star system is terribly flawed.. the same system which drives the class rankings, etc. on these sites. So to say one thing and then hold the team to another standard altogether is quite the double edged sword.

Question. When you say Morgan "blew up" at the Semper Fi Game, I gather you mean that he did not play well?

Do I have that wrong?

Or, did he play well?

He played pretty well...

I am real real high on a couple of kids in this class. I think we will hit big with a few top end guys but we still need wins on the field and an upgrade to facilities before we start getting better recruiting classes overall.

Played extraordinarily well.

Agreed. I think you have to look at player sizes and offers (and when they verbaled). IMHO, that is the best way to objectively evaluate a recruiting class before anyone puts on a uniform and starts hitting.

This we know for sure: this class has markedly better offers and is bigger and stronger than the classes we have been getting over the past 10 years. We can and will do better but the process of systematically upgrading the talent and depth on the roster continues.

You'd be correct if talking about a specific kid but wrong about the big picture.

Yeah, but this seems to be the same for most 2*'s we sign throughout the year.. I agree that sometimes evaluations are too biased and as such kids may be undervalued/overvalued. That said, it's funny to say the system isn't perfect, but then turn a cheek and say that the results of the non-perfect system are reliable. How can you rely on a set of outputs if you cannot the inputs.. You cannot bifurcate the two because one is the product of the other.

TO ME ITS CONSISTENCY IN RECRUITING - IF WE ARE GETTING BETTER EVERY YEAR THEN WE WILL KEEP DOING BETTER EVERY YEAR ON THE FIELD - ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. MY KEYBOARD CAPS IS IN HONOR OF SIGNING DAY TODAY AND BORZAK!

Based on ranking and offers, this class looks to be a notch above recent classes, but only time will tell.

2008: The stars of the class (Tucker, Preaster, Sales, M. Jones and Collier) never contributed much for the program (OK- I'll reserve judgment on Sales), while 3 less heralded recruits have played huge roles (C. Jones, Nassib and Bailey). The rest of the class not much.
2009: Small class, but a many were/are contributors. Maybe 2 of the best (Peterman and Carter) were busts.
2010: Large class, Similar in the middle to this year's class, but nobody rated higher than a 3 star.
2011: Very similar to the previous year. Jury is still out on some of these guys.

In the modern era (I'm talking 1980 to now) what are some of our higher recruiting class rankings. I'm just guessing here but even during the glory days we had average classes. Syracuse has always been good at finding the diamonds in the rough, the guy who is a worker, the man among boys to come here and play there ass off. What I see in this class is a bunch of 3 star guys that are loyal, bleed orange, and are hard hat workers. That has always been our core. I'm really high on this class and I feel it is leaps and bounds better then anything we have had in the past ten years.

A lot of over 6 foot tall players, I don't remember a class that had so many and the only one that has signed so far that is under 6 foot is the kicker and he's 5' 11".
