This years team

I think the one thing we can all agree on is that Hughes is probably a better pro prospect than Battle, Lydon, Ennis, etc. He has the size and shooting ability for the position he would play in the league.

I cost a lot of money to travel with strippers.
Depends which ones they hired. Are we talking escorts or the late shift at Lookers?

For those that aren't just going on history and pay close attention to the NBA, things started to make a strong change last year. 15 college Jrs & Srs were drafted in the 2nd round. Teams have gotten over the draft and stash thing and are starting to look for veterans that can possibly fill in a late rotation spot for a few years on the cheap. Increases chances that he could be drafted late 2nd round in either year.

Way to answer the question
What benefit is it to Eli to play now?
If there is no benefit next year?

He can go pro now by your logic.

If he wants to move on. I will support and thank him.
We as a fanbase should have no reason to think he won’t comeback right now.
He can decide to leave though.

The argument he is a 5th year Senior is just a narrative. Again Ethan Happ was an all-American why did he stay his 5th year? He is in Greece now.

Thank you for an actual real answer.

If he gets drafted in the second round of course he should go. The Europe or trend on your tires/age arguments are maddening.

He may want to go pro. Players don’t leave just because they are 5th year seniors and their age.

Yeah I'm in agreement that the age thing is irrelevant at this point. Any team that would draft a 22 year old 4th year Jr would draft a 23 year old 5th year Sr. It's purely his decision as to how he wants to spend next year. Could be one of the guys that feels like maybe he can help lead the program back to respectability next year or maybe he drops out of school in March and says see ya later.

So JB and the staff expect Hughes gone after this year. I can accept the truth then.

This just doesn’t make sense and speaks to a problem though.
Players go pro when they can no doubt but unless this kid gets drafted leaving just happens more here than the rest of the country.

definitely see your point but I think Players go pro when they realize staying does them no good professionally. 2nd round this year or next, they leave. Even if he goes undrafted, he will be getting paid next year to play basketball and have his degree. I wouldn't in a million years stay if I were him either. Maybe he works his way onto a roster after a couple years somewhere but he will be getting paid somewhere and working toward his overall goal.

I honestly thought Lydon had the best shot at sustained success just with the way the league was moving with him being a prototype stretch 4. Went to a terrible situation where the position was clogged and then got hurt and whatever opportunity existed was basically over before it started.

Why did CJ Fair return for his Senior year?
What is different for him if he leaves after his Junior year?

Unless you're a transcendent talent, there is a lot of luck involved in securing (and holding) an NBA roster slot.

I loved Lydon at Syracuse, but I never really believed he would stick in the league. He was very hot or cold. Did shoot a pretty good percentage from 3, but I can remember many on here being down on him because he had a tendency to disappear often. He was also extremely limited physically. To me, Hughes is far more polished.

Times change - some people do not.

A few years ago it was unheard for players to skip college to go pro. It is what it is.

And sometimes even if you're a top-10 pick. Staying in the NBA more than a season or two is a crapshoot for the majority of players. Playing a lot in college isn't the correlating factor.

Simply getting there is quite a feat. The old Manley Field House could hold every player who ever appeared in an NBA or ABA game.

why did fair come back and others didn’t? Because everyone is different and have different outlooks on what they want to do.
So you know Hughes outlook?
This is breaking news for the board.
Let’s make sure Hughes get honored on Senior Day then.

Every player has different outlooks is obvious. Do you know Hughes is gone after this year?
JB said people could move he hasn’t hinted Hughes is one of those players.
Nobody knows unless you do.

Agree and Fair stayed before every syracuse player watched the guys that were here before them do the exact same thing as well. I remember people thought J Grant was crazy for leaving, Waiters, etc. Even last year people thought Oshae was crazy for leaving. Hughes will get his degree and most likely not improve draft status, not much left.

For guys with NBA aspirations or even a possibility, the college game is nothing more than minor leagues for 9 out of 10 and that's fine. The college game suffers but so be it

They lost at UK on Dec. 28. I'd call that a true road game.
If you are going to nit pick...last time I believe something I see written

The Elijah Hughes is automatically gone takes just make no sense.
i mean they are just complete speculation.
Why?
Does he have to go and if I go look at all other teams rosters I can probably find a lot of guys who have stayed 5 years in college basketball and gotten a chance in pro basketball.

Wes Johnson left because he was going to be a lottery pick. Players don’t just leave to leave.
Tyus Battle, Oshae Brissett....Hughes' game is better suited for the NBA than both of theirs.

Wes was 10 years ago.

Hughes going pro and doing well is good for the program good for recruiting.

Hughes is probably gone, dude. Will have his degree, and maybe he's ready to play for pay. It's not a Syracuse thing either, despite your efforts to pin this on Boeheim. Happens all over. Common sense.

Did I say I knew Hughes outlook? You like reading into things. You’re the one making declarations.

There’s a reason better NBA teams are better. They draft the best players available later in the draft. They don’t have to rely or hope some 19 year old might turn out to be a good player or have to wait 3-4 years for them to develop. Coaches want the best players because they want to win now. They will probably be gone by the time these young players develop or they become free agents and leave. How many rookies are playing on playoff teams?

So what do you know if I can ask?

did I say I knew anything? which post gave you the impression I did? Or are you just making things up like I said in a prior post?

You know what Hughes should do/will do? ask him after the season, either decision he makes will hopefully work out great for him. gun to my head, I am guessing he leaves, but when you are a fringe 2nd round pick things can certainly go the other way.
