Thread for folks going to Atlanta

Driving in from Columbia, SC Friday night. Staying at the Hampton Inn near the Georgia Tech Campus and will be doing the 30 minute walk over to the stadium. My 17 year old son will be joining me. The Syracuse University tailgate party is just too early a start to participate in that not to mention I got to get my money’s worth out of the hotel’s free breakfast. Plan on entering the stadium between 10 and 10:30. Seats are in the first row of section 340 ( upper deck 45 yard line). We are also going to the SC/VT game the next day. My son has unfortunately adopted the Gamecocks and not the Orange as his favorite college team. We plan on visiting the College Football Hall of Fame and the Georgia Aquarium while in downtown Atlanta. If you see an Orange (solar octane is the official color name) Toyota 4Runner with a SC license plate “GO CUSE” driving around, that will be me. Already looking forward to that weekend.
Need to find an Estate Planner and write your son out of the will ASAP... ha ha.

Made last minute plans and we are headed down this afternoon to make a week of it.

Haven’t gotten tickets yet and lots to figure out still but looking forward to being there with our family and the extended orange fam!
Go to StubHub for tickets. SU's sections are going for far less than they were selling on their website.

Oh, one more rec: the Atlanta Beltline is a nice walk/biking path and you'll eventually hit a food hall with a lot of great options (Krog Food Hall maybe? Could be making that up). I particularly like the dumplings.

Also a few great breweries out towards Avondale Estates if you're willing to drive.
There are actually two great food halls on the Beltline - Krog St. Market is the smaller one (which I prefer) and Ponce City Market is a mammoth complex in a old Sears warehouse. Both have excellent beer vendors and food. They're not that easy to get to on public transportation though.

Couldn't agree more about Avondale Estates. Three excellent breweries within walking distance of the Avondale Marta station (straight shot east from MBS) and each other. And you can walk with your beer from one brewery to the other! Also lots of restaurants within walking distance and the breweries have great food too. Wild Heaven Brewery (my favorite) has one of the best smashburgers I've ever had. If you really want to enjoy Atlanta, you have to get out of downtown.

Yep, I'll be staying in Avondale Estates at my friend's place. Big fan of one of the cafes and the arepa place in town there too.

I'm considering a nutso itinerary where I take a red eye from SLC to Atlanta with nothing but my wallet, phone, and phone charger, kick around getting breakfast, head to the stadium and game, and fly back shortly after.

Lemme know if anyone has room in their group ticket buy for one more, as it would be more fun to not be completely solo.
Did you decide if you'll be making the pilgrimage to the ATL where the players play and we ride on dem things like everyday?

99% of the time I wear orange to SU sporting events but I’m wondering if I should go blue polo on Saturday. Florida does that whenever they play Tennessee. Their fans wear orange normally but blue against the Vols.

While we are it, we should just intentionally spot them a TD lol. We are the Syracuse Orange! Never let a Tennessee fan make you feel uncomfortable for wearing the color that is literally in our name!

That would seem correct. SU has over 425 people signed up for the pre-game event, including Randy Edsall.
I heard 3-4 tickets officially sold through school. But I also know lots of folks don’t purchase that way so that probably means what…6-8k? If we got near 10 I’d be surprised but pleasantly shocked. Fran has helped on season tickets at home.

*Alert for anyone driving to the game. The Dragon Con parade is at 10:00 AM Saturday Morning and is about 1 mile Northeast of the stadium. I’m not sure how early they start closing down those roads, but I would try to avoid anywhere near the map below.

LOL, yup! We moved from Cali back in summer 2014. Currently in far west Alpharetta, near Crabapple.

Got tickets for my son and me today. Has anyone organized a Friday evening event?
I asked the following question in the tailgate forum (no responses yet):

Anyone up for a Friday pre-game get together?
I know that everyone is spread out around town.
I'm North, but might be able to hit Siracusa's NY Pizzeria or someplace in Mid Town.

Any ideas or takers?
Some of the other locals may have better ideas & suggestions.

Sandy Springs? Roswell?

How was I not aware he was there doing this? Was he hiding his nametag from me? Was it the heat stroke affecting my vision and/or memory? Either way, I'm quite disappointed at this missed opportunity.
Same here. I spent most of that tailgate in the cooking tent regretting my decision to hit Fat Tuesdays earlier in the day.

I was totally there.

Struggled with the heat. But was there.

Probably went through half the Gatorade budget myself.
