It's sad that we are at this point with 3 games remaining, but it's pretty clear we aren't going to make a bowl this year. So if that is out of the picture it's time to get game experience for the redshirts we potentially wasted this year. I'm not sure if Shafer feels like he owes a few kids playing time, but in a few cases that's what it feels like.

Ishmael - Needs to play the entire freaking game if he can. I respect Flemming for sticking with the program throughout all of his injuries, but they look like they took a toll on his body. The poor kid just can't move. I have no idea why he is getting more snaps then Ish? It should be Ish and West from here on out.

Custis - What happened to him? The kid has seemingly disappeared after his 1 drop vs Maryland. The kid wasn't used correctly under McDonald, but you can tell he is a threat out there. Parris is solid, but Kendall Moore just isn't a tight end. I'd like to see Custis split snaps with Parris, or at least be fit into the game plan. For a team that has no offensive talent, it seems we are wasting the kid.

Avant - Supposedly had a solid Fall camp so might as well see if he can produce when the lights are on. Lewis has been the next best receiver behind West and Ish, but let's see what we have with Avant in the slot.

Erv - He is another candidate who i'd like to see given a chance in the slot. I'd actually think he'd be better then Estime there. Either that or let's cut back PTG and Moore's carries, and give Erv a handful of series these next 3 games.

Franklin - This kid is an absolute stud. He is better then Hodge right now. Start Franklin at the MIKE now. He is bigger then Hodge and has better sideline to sideline speed.

Thomas - Totally wasted his redshirt. Give him Kirkland's snap behind Davis.

Bennett - Another wasted shirt. Give him snaps behind Cam.

Cordy - Reddish has had one of the better years one of our corners have had in a long time, but Whigham has been the exact opposite. Let's find out of Cordy can cover some peeople when it counts.

AJ - We already burned his shirt so keep playing him at qb. let's find out how he is going to figure into our long term plans.

And i know these guys aren't Freshman, but Johnson and Thompson need to play at DE right now. Welsh and Robinson give you absolutely nothing in terms of a pass rush (which has been our biggest problem on defense), and not much more against the run. These 2 are players let's give them some time.

Beat Duke and get a bye

Pitt and BC aren't impossible. Sure we suck right now but if we somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat and beat a decent Duke team, we get healthy for the remaining 2 games (Pitt will lose the game themselves) and that leads us to BC

We are playing our best players until we lose 7 games. We have not yet.

I would assume by reading everyone's comments that it is impossible to win with 2nd string offensive lineman in?

Not impossible but very close to it.

One of the problems I see with this staff is they have a hard time recognizing who should be playing and who shouldn't be playing. If a younger kid is better than he should play. This is big boy football not pop warner

Agree with all of the above except Robinson. He has been the defensive version of West.

Franklin needs to play now. I think Hodge slides over to Sam so would use him to spell Cam. Would use either Thomas or Bennet then at the Will to spell Dyshawn.

Play to win the rivalry games in November. Play to beat Duke. Give the seniors a chance to win a game - any game. The youth movement can wait. Now if Franklin and some others are better, let them help . But beat somebody.

Nothing would create derision faster than this. I think the young guys that should be playing are involved correctly. You can't correct the fact that the staff inexcusably blew the redshirts of several freshman by demoting players that are more ready to play and have given far more to the program. This is a problem that goes back to Marrone.

Anyone know anything about Cornelius? Is he hurt or just buried on the depth chart?

It is. We beat NCS If the rookie doesnt throw the pick six if Captain Kirk falls on the ball we win this game going away. There is no reason to quit now. What do you think the coaches should do throw in the towel when we could possibly win the next three? I agree with all of your points if we lose to Duke but lets go balls to the wall until that happens we owe guys like Hick that much.

Most of the guys I listed above imo are playing better then the people ahead of them, and the others really aren't producing anyways.

examples

- Flemming is replaceable
- Lewis is playing good, but is obviously banged up. Wouldn't hurt to give Avant, or Erv work in the slot, especially since it sounded like Avant was ahead of Lewis on the depth chart during Fall camp.
- Erv is probably our best natural running back so giving him extrea series wouldn't be a shock.
- Franklin is better then Hodge right now imo
- Bennett and Thomas backing up at SAM and WILL I don't see how we lose much sitting Kirkland who is consistently out of position.
- Whigham has had a pretty bad year, how much worse would Cordy be?

All seem pretty reasonable to me.

I think you wait to see how this next game plays out. Get the miracle win, stay with who you have. Lose - use the bye and the next two games as your youth movement (only with guys who've burned their redshirts already...)

I dont disagree. I think that Flemming is the third reciever at this point Ism should see most of the reps. Have to wonder what is going on with Custis could it be grade related? Franklin is getting more run which is a good thing but he isnt better than the starters not sure about Johnson but it seems that our two senior guys have been playing really well. At this point you play to win. Post Duke if we are out of the bowl picture i would for sure give the young guys much more run especially Mcfarland and Ish

You think Hodge is better then Franklin? I don't know in limited time Franklin has jumped off the screen in a couple of plays. He made 1 play where he chased down the guy to the sideline that I doubt Hodge could make. imo he is better at MIKE right now.

Flemming is the best blocking wr on the team. He also knows the full playbook and what options to run out of it based upon a hand or verbal signal. I'm sure Ish may not. Ish has more talent no doubt, but there's more.

Thomas is the one I really don't understand.

We needed him that badly on specials? Really?

Lewis is arguably one of our top two WR's. Sans the TD drop in the end zone, he has the best hands on the team and he always finds a way to get open. He has a lot higher ceiling than you're giving him credit for.
