The last time the OrangeNation was this giddy was after the 2011 beatdown of West Virginia.

As you recall we went on a downward spiral with five straight losses to end the season and our bowl possibilities.

Included in that streak was loss number three in-a-row, a home Friday game against the South Florida Bulls.

It wasn't just a loss, it was a humiliation.

The Bulls were on a school record, at the time, four game losing streak.

This year the Bulls are riding a new school record losing streak of five games.

SU needs to remember what Daniels and the Bulls did to them last year as they prepare for Saturday evenings game.

Daniels leads USF over Syracuse 30-17

Here's to hoping that the learned the right lesson from last week: Eliminate mistakes, trust your team, and don't take anyone lightly.

I always thought that the WVU game went to the players heads a bit.

Here's to hoping USF's pass defense stays broken and we contain BJ.

What happened last year has no bearing on this year what so ever so stop trying to compare. This SU team is much better then last years across the board.

establish that run. run broyld early. pick up blitzes and get the ball out quickly.

The key will be to pressure Daniels. He really gets flustered if he is in danger. NO SOFT ZONES!

The key will be to run the football and pass as needed, that may be unexciting to some fans, but its the way to win games. I don't mind 25-35 passes in a game, but we need to run effectively in each game. Ryan is a much better QB when the running game is getting yards.

Yes, we've cut down on our turnovers significantly since last year and special teams is amazing too.

The team was terrible last year simply no comparison if you can't see that then you don't know football. Actually overall special teams are pretty damn good. Kickoff and punt coverage has been pretty damn good. All season long SU has fumbled one punt and had one FG blocked because an OL slipped and fell.
Oh ya the defense has been freaking fantasic and offense averages 450yds/game. So yes I think we easily beat USF.

this must be why Marrone was so grouchy and cantakerous in his post game presser. Pressures on and he remembers what you wrote.

A tad harsh, no?

I, for one, appreciated the point on perspective OE was making. As for your point that "last year has no bearing whatsoever on this year..." I gotta believe that the staff has watched last year's tape 10 or more times already. It certainly WILL have a bearing on how they try to scheme for Daniels this year.

There are no layups the rest of the way.

There are some key differences though.

1. Team is healthy.

2. The offense is starting to be able to game plan to attack the opponent vs trying to hide their own.

I agree...but I think the biggest difference is that teams can no longer push us around on the line of scrimmage.

This is key. We are healthy, we have spare parts, we rotate at key positions (RB, DL, LBs). Couldn't do that last season.
We don't have many true stars (Pugh, Lemon, Bromley, Sharmarko) but we have a broad group of contributors.
It was a big statement to see Smith running behind Hickey & Trudo.
Also big to see the kicking game (and coverage made easy by solid kicking).
Nothing will be easy. But this team has a chance to be relevant in November.

Have we even had a layup?

USF is a s bipolar as they come and they are due to put it together so SU better bring it or we'll be really against the wall for the rest of the season.
