From Syracuse, but have lived in Buffalo for the past 8 years. It seems that we have a lot of people in the area that do not like Syracuse. Part Bonnies and partly UB reasons but even non Bonnie fans and non UB fans never seem to pull for Syracuse. Also seems to be a ton of duke fans around. They claim it’s because of Christian Laettner but I don’t buy it. Some of them were too young when he was in college for that to be a reason.

So I ask, do you like being the team everyone loves and roots for. Or do you secretly love being the villain that everyone hates seeing have success?

I feel like more often than not the villain is the really good team everyone is sick of seeing win all the time. I want to be that team.
This is my thinking too. Usually people hate the team that wins. Syracuse doesn’t have the bandwagon fans like a duke, but we have plenty of people that don’t like us. I like being the villain. Wish we had as many championships as they did.

Inexcusable that Buffalo doesn’t support the cuse. It’s not like they have a viable other team to root for. Buffalo is not anything remotely close to a competitor or rival for Syracuse - it ain’t like Kentucky and Louisville or something.

Basically ignored here. 40% OSU, 25% UD, 10% UK, 5% UC, 5% Lville, 15% everyone else

Anywhere you go in this country if you say you are from Syracuse the first thing most people bring up is the b-ball team.
I’ve lived in several regions of the USA and that has been my experience anyhow.

When you’re the villain it means you’re successful. I’m also a Nets fan and am thoroughly enjoying being the villain in the NBA as well.

I lived in the Buff for a few years. Sabres rule winter sports regardless, but there is immense love for the "Little 4" schools. Bona, Canisius, Niagara and UB get a lot of local loyalty. It's kinda cool- Buffalo and WNY are their own little universe. There was some 'cuse love when I lived there and in the sports bars I hung out in. I think it's a bit of "us vs. them" attitude- maybe a little jealous that they just don't have any hoops cred at all. Hell, folks still lamented the Braves leaving town when I was there in the mid 90s.

It's the truth. I'm out here in goddamn Boise, ID and people know Syracuse basketball

Hate, by far. If no one "hates" you it means you're irrelevant.

I'm from WNY as well. It's a pro sports town with people very prideful of being from there, so they only really support those teams in the area. They consider CNY to be very different from them, which is kinda funny cause both areas are pretty similar.

The Bills are good for the first time in decades I don't think those people care about anything else sports related even teh Sabres sucking.

Feel bad for them they couldn't tailgate or attend games this past year as the Patriots have reloaded and will control the division again next year.
