Our fix is simple. Win 50% or greater of our face offs and we win games. Other than that there is nothing that can be done that will make much of a difference. This year is shot as dont have anybody that can step up. If im Desko im recruiting the best face off guys in HS and the JC ranks or next year will be just the same

/O's are key, no question. But I think the fix is harder than that. Daddio and Buhr were all american HS middies who won a crazy percent of their draws. If you saw their numbers coming in for next year, you'd think we'd be fine. Our inability to pick up ground balls is equally troubling around the X. Joel and Jovan must have been otherworldly at this because, we absolutely stink this year. One would think Kevin Drew would be good, but as was noted in another thread, he plays soft. Matt Harris has the size and athleticism to be a good gb guy, but might be playing too many positions to be effective. Basically, I think the fix is more than just a guy standing at the X and pushing it out to us... This team has deeper problems. Offensively, we have been poor, both in 6 on 6 lax and the man-up. Desko has said he tries to tell these kids to alter their planes on shots, guard high or low, whatever, and they don't listen. Perhaps, the message isn't coming through. Without the absolute best players in the country, we need to have a very disciplined team to compete against the UVA, Hops, Cornells, etc. I don't think we do this year.

I don't think Harris played last night. I don't remember seeing 44 out there.

I saw his number. Might not have played much, but I saw him.

He was part of a failed Mullins - Harris - Maltz fast break that got stuffed.

Losing at the X the way we have is so frustrating because we give the other team too many free possessions. On top of that, from what I have been able to see this year, we are too careless on the offensive end and give up the ball too easily. The fact is the game has slowed down and there is less transition than 10 years ago. Teams work the clock and play with it on the perimeter, pick their shot, back it up and retain possession. It is no coincidence that this is the first year I have ever been in favor of introducing a shot clock. Failure to win the ball at the X or giving it away quickly has never been more disastrous to a team's fortunes than the present state of the game, and that just happens to be this teams current Achilles heel. They have got to start treating the rock like it means something and really go after it, because every possession is important.
On a side note, regarding the changing of planes on shots, is that habits can be so tough to break. My coach called me on it in practice one day, noticing that I picked up a habit of always shooting low. Even after a fake on the crease, it was always fake high and go low. All I can say is that it seemed to take a lot of practice to re-wire my motor units to begin to change the shot selection. Much easier said than done, but then again I was never an elite-level Orangman.
