Tommy Devito: Giants

Seems to me it was much better. Either he was that much improved (not) or Illinois was that much better. Straightforward no?
Yeah, it seems pretty clear it was a better situation. He was never asked to make plays for them. He just had to hand off to their really good RB and make safe easy throws. When he had to be a playmaker here, well we know how that went.

You're overthinking this and applying logic where it's not required.

DeVito's NFL success is a potential positive for Syracuse.

Thus, he is a Syracuse QB.

I try to never forget that the average person is an uninformed imbecile who is oblivious to how little he or she actually knows.

The thinking that Devito doing well in the NFL reflects badly on Syracuse in any way is bizarre for that reason. There’s maybe 10 players in the NFL I associate with a college - and I watch a crapload of both college and NFL. The average Giants fan has no clue where Tommy went to college - all they care about is he’s a local kid who was living with mom and dad.

The school should absolutely count him as a Syracuse player in the NFL - the number is the only relevant thing (and barely relevant at that) nobody goes to granular level to assess the validity of the list.

He played into his fourth year here.
He's got an SU degree.
Fans cheer his video at the Dome.
Therefore, he's ours.
it's mostly the students that cheer him because a lot are from ny/nj/ct, too. i find it comical they give him such a big ovation but most of them never watched him play here so it all fits.

That’s actually a myth. Except for his freshman year here when he played a couple games for Dungey and it was bombs away, the depth of his passes at Illinois were a little greater than when at SU.

But if he ever makes it to one of the Sunday night games, I'll bet dollars to doughnuts he says "University of Illinois" during the intros. We didn’t have a good line during his starting phase here and he struggled.

I want to see Tommie's dad and his agent (who I believe is a member of the Sicilian brownies) kissing in the stands

Stellato (spelling?), Tommy's agent, had a pregame sideline pass for the BC game. He had his fedora and if I remember correctly he was talking with Wildhack at one point. I was thinking he's probably representing one of the Jersey guys on our roster.

I do know that he's been to the Dome before...in Clemson gear.

Edit - this is his nephew:

Cole Swider ALSO a Syracuse player.

Jesse Edwards NOT a Syracuse player

Did they go for more yards or did he actually throw them farther? Those aren't always the same. How much yac did he have at Illinois? When I watched, I didn't see him throwing down field. I saw a lot of safe passes.

And when Kadary Richmond is in the NBA next year you're dang well right we claim him as a Syracuse guy.

I tried to look this up but can't find advanced stats like air yards per attempt for college players, only NFL. I will say, though, that his sophomore year at SU was almost identical to his one year at Illinois, including yards per attempt and yards per completion.

Not really a myth from what I saw. The prior comment may have overstated it a bit, but he was not asked to make difficult throws on a routine basis and they had a run based offense.
