Tony Bennett

SU spends too much times shooting tough shots instead of just shooting good shots. Al this step back stuff is for the birds. We aren’t athletic enough to do it. This isn’t the NBA. How many step back shots did Virginia try tonight vs. SU? That’s coaching.

The quality of shots they got compared to us wasn’t close. It also appears they have a legit strength and conditioning program compared to our pizza and marb light regimen.
Seriously, their kids are as skinny as ours maybe worse. That’s not unc out there. And I am sorry but we had so many open shots that we missed I forgot to count. Inside they defended us hard but we had so many that just clanged off the rim

Did you see Huff against Marek and Hauser against Griffin. They had zero shot.

I just listened to JB's press conference and honestly I hope he was lying through his teeth and that face guard.

All of UVa's threes were set, clean looks. Or they dunked on us, over and over.

We could probably count the amount of clean / good footwork shots we took in this game. We looked rush, lose with the ball, ill prepared. That back down junk in the lane is just awful by Buddy, Griff, Marek...

I hope so too, but the commentary sounded like someone who’s lost a little grip with reality. The 5 percentage points is only one more 3 stuff is legit scary to me seeing as this is a guy who counts possessions at the end of games. 3 more points is the difference between a win and loss in many many games of basketball.

And the Woody Newton stuff - the guy came into games and dunked on people, shot 3s, wasn't scared. If something is wrong so be it (I have no idea) but it was a weird answer.

If discounting for the talent level of the recruits...the top 2 in D-1 are Tony Bennett and Jay Wright.
They just play their style.
Mark Few is up there in coaching...but usually has better incoming talent.

He was way too passive aggressive with that answer.
Nobody wants Newton to start or be the focus of our offense.

It’s almost like JB thinks one way and won’t hear other ways.
What really frustrates me is I don’t see changing and the only change is players leaving.

Also don't think he's a fan of Matthew G and the longform Athletic works he does.

Yup how many players on this team except one are thinking of leaving and actually will

Ding ding ding... at what point do Newton and Kadary hit the transfer portal?

It's been way past time for him to go. I guess we have one more year after this one before buddy graduates? Any chance he's graduates in 3?

Well he is the one of the few guys who actually asks him hard questions.
I get Donna and Mike not asking hard questions they need access.
Same for Niko.
There are few media who will actually ask legitimate questions.

JB needs to get over the fact he doesn’t like them and realize they want the program to win.
His response was passive aggressive and it was fair.

The bench has actually depth that can help the team.

Bennett recruits guys who are perfect to play his system. SU used to do that too. We don't now. We are not getting players who fit the the zone and today's offensive capabilities. You need a shot blocking center for the zone. We haven't had one in a long time. Slow, unathletic guards at the top of the zone which don't stop dribble penetration. And the list goes on. Won't be any better next year with just one recruit incoming.

Like watching SU's old teams the way he goes tall with 2 bigs and moves the ball.

They do get some talent but yeah it's mostly good coaching/strategy. Benny would be their highest rated recruit in years
Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy were both top 50 kids. Guy was top 25. Deandre Hunter and Mamadi Diakite were both top 75. They have a couple top 50 kids on the current team. But yeah they get a lot of sub-100 kids and really develop them. Kihei Clark?? I mean, come on. That kid wouldn’t be that good if he went anywhere but UVA. I never thought much of him but he had a great game.

Aside from HS recruiting, one factor for our success has been bringing in good transfers. And most of the guys we’ve brought in who contributed...Gill, Thompson, Key, Hauser, Murphy...we recruited when they were in HS. We’ve done well with guys who have a couple of years of college experience under their belts.

I mean, the guy barely had the question out, and he yelled "what?!?!?!"

It was a bitter answer from a guy that cannot stand to be questioned, even after a bad loss. And from a guy who knew he was getting a question he wouldn't like when they said who would be asking it.

Someone's not going to like that article very much.

UVA does shoot 40% from 3 point range this season, so I expect that will be thrown back in his face.

Think he has an account or just mooches off Gerry? :)
