Top 50 Plays of the Last 50 Years

The Georgetown game in 2006 was the buzzer beater, IIRC.
And it might have only forced OT.

GMac buzzer beater at Georgetown was 2004, it won the game. The one game at Georgetown I wasn't able to attend for an unfortunate reason. Which is why I remember it.

The Georgetown game I'm talking about was at that magical run at the Garden, which I think was 2006. Gerry single-handledly won 3 games down the stretch.

Oh ok. He hit a 3 in the last minute I think but Devo won it on a late game layup? Was still a little time left. Or I’m getting my years wrong.

Yes, I think you're right. Gerry had like 3 game winning plays in a row in that run. I think that was the "Overrated?" run. The year after Warrick graduated, so it was Gerry and all those sophomores.

Yes, that was the run. Then he couldn't do anything in the first round of the tournament because he was injured.

I think actually he scored something like 43 in the first round (against BYU?), but he pulled his groin, and that was the end of it.

He scored 43 against BYU in 2004.

GMac had been nursing the groin injury all season in 2006.

We were down 15 at half against Georgetown. If we didn't make any headway in the first 5 minutes, he was sitting for the rest of the game.

He was only able to play 23 minutes against A&M in the 2006 NCAA tournament.

Maybe his worst game of his college career. Didn’t make a basket and only had 2 total points. Felt really bad that is how his college career ended.

That was his sophomore year. The Big East Tourney run and then loss in the NCAA first round was senior year. He was injured going into that first round game.

It wasn’t one play, but Melo’s performance at Michigan State set the stage for a run at the national championship. I think after that game, people realized SU was pretty good.
Was at that game. Very tough environment to win... but we did.

Underrated, play if only for its symbolism ...

Last BE Tourney and tussle with dreaded Hoyas and CJ ostensibly clinched it via posterization over their first-team all-american power forward.
  • Added bonus: at MSG, Sean/Raf on the call.
  • In case any of your young friends ask, we decidedly won the rivalry during the BE era. There is no doubt. Fff 'em.

CJ (un)Fair throwing it down over Otto Poster.

He literally broke Otto - dude struggled for years after that.
