Explain why Fran might have preferred Lott to Sidwar? How might Zamitt fit in?

No inside info whatever, but a plausible scenario is that a prospect makes clear that he is expecting to get paid a certain amount, and Fran doesn't (in general) do that for HS kids who haven't proven they can cut it in college yet.

Do we even know for sure that Gavin canceled his visit after the commit and not the other way around?

This is all reading between the lines. Conjecture only.

It is getting late in the game to take a QB in the class of 2026. Most of the best have already been taken. You ideally want to get your QB early on as it helps establish momentum for the rest of the class. I am sure we wanted to lock in with one asap.

I think Sidwar is really good. If we were willing to promise him the starting job, we probably could have gotten him but I think Collins has pretty much already secured that spot. I expect Sidwar to go somewhere where he has a good chance to start right away or at least a place where there is a senior QB in place as the starter.

For us, Collins has three years left and IMHO, there is no way Sidwar is going to wait that long.

Lott has a ton of raw talent but it looks fo me as though his team ran a relatively simple offensive scheme and he is going to need some time to adjust to the sophisticated Syracuse offense. He is willing to wait his turn to have a chance to play in this offense.

Agree with Legacy that unless someone else leaves, we are only taking one QB in this class.

Zaid is our guy. I like him a lot. If he can handle the mental side to the position (which is tough), he has a chance to be a very good college QB. Size, athletic ability, strong arm. He has a lot of things going on for him.

Very logical.

It could also be that the coaches [behind the scenes] pressed Sidwar to pull the trigger but he is slow rolling, or that the coaching staff thinks things aren't trending favorably for SU.

So they opt for a bird in the hand who has tools, instead of waiting and potentially missing out on Sidwar.

Sidwar has SEC schools involved. Wouldn't surprise me if he (correctly) wants to take his time and Cuse wants an answer.

That's just how recruiting goes at times.

Budding bidding wars possible as well

There is never a guarantee with how recruits, especially QB recruits, will turn out.

Maybe the staff had a slight preference for Sidwar and maybe not, but factor in that it could be a multi-year wait for whomever they get and also that we DID get Zaid TODAY, then anybody suggesting that we turn down this commitment for the POSSIBILITY of getting Sidwar later is way off base in my book.

I was in no way suggesting that. I had thought Sidwar was the goal, and then we get this guy, and I was just wondering why it might shake out that way. Thanks for the input from all

We waited too long for Sidwar in my opinion. He visited, we thought we were favorites, he may commit, and then all of the sudden we're getting slow-played.

Agree, 100%, overpaying for a QB who is unproven (even though his tape looks awesome) is not a great idea. (CDRW for example)

A few years back there was an analysis of how many four star quarterbacks were starting for the team that they signed with by their junior year. It was something like 25%. Most remained backups, transferred or we’re gone altogether. (We had 2 on our roster alone)

If Rickie Collins kills it here and gets drafted, we will become one of the premier destinations for portal QB's. We may already be after Kyle's magical year. But, having a second success story in a row will cement that status. We will always need freshman QBs, but we should never pay much for them.

I don’t see how you bail on a QB like Sidwar in March if you think you’re the leader
