Tournament Resumes YTD / Selection Show

100% - We better be ready but this is honestly what I imagined as one of the best options.

Harvard has already beaten SU this year so clearly them winning again would be no surprise at all but what this does is remove the 8-7 or 9-8 rockfight that you fear when playing Army especially this version. Also has SU with the revenge factor etc and a great X matchup.

And McCool playing good and loose...I think he settled in...

Revenge ON the nerds.

Yeah how did they not get Colgate what a joke
Some of the seeding and matchups, are usually suspect, but this year is just bad.

if Penn State is really number five, they get Notre Dame? Sounds like they either should not have been number five, or if legit, they should not have gotten Notre Dame. Seems like the committee split the baby. But ACC getting 6,7,8 gave Notre Dame no one else to play.

Syracuse, whose résumé is clearly better, gets number six, and gets Harvard.

then, of course, the the total farce is Duke getting Georgetown and North Carolina getting Richmond.

there is no universe where Georgetown and Richmond are better teams than Harvard and Notre Dame, yet Duke and UNC are lower seeds with much easier draws. Richmond‘s best win is Georgetown and Georgetowns is Penn.

Don’t want to look ahead, but I haven’t seen any Princeton before today. They had Cornell on the ropes and then Cornell went on a 10-0 run to close out the game. Cuse is -3 against Harvard, what would a hypothetical Princeton Cuse matchup line look like

I see no issue switching up the start time. Lord knows it hasn't exactly gone undefeated in rd 1

ND only played 12 games this season??
They usually play fewer games than everyone else. I think the NCAA places a limit on number of games plus scrimmages. ND plays more scrimmages and fewer games than other schools.

Notre Dame has a school policy: No non-conference road games in the middle of the week unless they're within a short bus ride.

Princeton is obviously a very solid team, I think at goalie it would be mostly even, Cuse would have the advantage at the dot. I saw Princeton play in person a few weeks ago @ Penn, they looked asleep in the 1st half but dominated the second half. Their offense has some really good players but I think we would be ok against their defense.

What a weekend! Two great games and then a favorable seeding. It could have been much worse for us. If we had lost to Notre Dame, then I don’t think we even make the playoffs!

A few thoughts:
-I really feel badly for Army. We took their spot last year, and Harvard took their spot this year. I understand the RPI reasoning for taking Harvard over them (RPI of 11 over 12), but I just feel badly for them. They had a great season. College lacrosse has grown, so I think it’s time to revamp the playoff system. Either get rid of the Automatic Qualifiers or add more teams to the playoffs. The 12th best team in the country should at least make it to the playoffs. The teams that made it through AQ in weaker conferences are much less deserving
-Harvard is really good. McCool struggled in the game against them, but if you look at their goals, their shooters were getting wide open shots and ripping the corners. Props to them. I think we’re the better team though (we didn’t have Thomson last time we played them), but not by much, so we need to recreate what was successful this weekend, which was:
-valuing each possession (no silly outside shots by Rhoa, which are basically turnovers), clearing the ball well, winning the face-off battle, having great goalie play, having great long stick 1v1 defense, having timely slides on defense, not leaving a wide open player on the crease when we slide, scoring on man up and fast break opportunities, limiting penalties, attacking their SSDMs, and playing Spallina off ball/not having Spallina dodge
-I would run the offense through Hiltz and Leo by getting a SSDM switched on to them. They are the keys to our offense. Spallina is brilliant as a passer when no one is on him, but he cannot dodge, even against a SSDM, and his outside shot is below average. Set picks or through dodging and slides, get a SSDM switched on to Hiltz or Leo, and then let them start the offense.

Best possession of the game today (maybe the best possession of the season): Anderson dodges and draws a slide, Hiltz gets a SSDM switched on to him, Hiltz then dodges the SSDM and draws a slide, Hiltz passes to Spallina at X, Spallina has no one on him and the defense is spinning and Spallina uses his vision to find Anderson, then Anderson scores from a wide open outside shot. That possession highlights our best 6v6 offense: we have some players that can dodge against a SSDMs to draw a slide (Hiltz, Anderson, Hottle, Leo, and English; nobody on our team can beat a long stick defender), utilizing Spallina as a brilliant passer in man up or when he’s not being guarded, and then we have some good finishers (especially Hiltz and Thomson)

Things to work on:
-Our slides to help our SSDMs was bad against Notre Dame. It was much much better today up front, but still not good when they dodged against our SSDMs from X
-J Spallina cost us 2 goals against Notre Dame and again 2 goals to Duke today. I know we’re thin at SSDMs but I don’t think he can be trusted to be played in the playoffs. The margin of error between winning and losing is just too small for us

Let’s go Cuse!!!!

1. Cornell vs UAlbany/Siena
8. UNC vs Richmond

4. Ohio St vs Notre Dame
5. PSU vs Colgate

3. Princeton vs Towson
6. Syracuse vs Harvard

2. Maryland vs RMU / AF
7. Duke vs Georgetown
If PSU and OSU win they meet in the next round (elite eight). Likewise for Princeton and Harvard. None of the ACC teams will meet again until the Final Four. Not complaining, I'd enjoy an all-ACC Final Four or ACCT2, whichever you prefer... or, the way it should always be!

Anyway, SU probably has the easiest road to Championship Weekend.

Thomson played against Harvard, had a massive game.

Cornell has the 7:30 game Sunday
Yeah. When the first team that came up was Cornell at 7:30p May 11 I immediately worried we didn't get a home game. Has Pete Sala figured out how to clear out the Dome from commencement quicker? Hire more people? But why does ESPN want a potentially lousy game of Cornell v Albany or Siena in prime time Sunday night instead of a loud crowd in the Dome?

Commencement always runs from 9:30 AM - Noon.

Last year was the first time we hosted since the new roof was installed. Maybe they found out it takes less time to stack up all the chairs on pallets and remove them by forklift if they can keep the large garage doors in the SW corner open all the time (as opposed to using the airlock)?

Sala must be confident in the crew's ability to turn the Dome over in 3 hours.
