Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

That is their rule. Not the ACC's.

No i know but I just wanted to point out that the “old rules” isn’t universal and I know of at least the SEC who still blocks during this portal window within conference

In watching the spring game and having had an opportunity to watch practice my two cents is that I like Fran Brown and his staff and the principals they stand upon. They are doing so much to help these kids that I'm blown away. Everyone speaks about family and I'm sure there are other coaches who care but, in my lifetime, I have never been more impressed with a leader of a sports team than I am of Fran. If Trebor gave his word and backed out, then shame on him. Yes, he is a very good player, and he will be missed but not to the point that you back down on someone who breaks their word. I don't wish him anything. Nothing bad and nothing good. He is gone. Period. No need to speculate why or to make excuses for him. The QB, the money this or that. Bottom line is he reneged on his word. Simple as that.
As to his position, Karma has Fran and the team as we are deep and loaded. SU will be fine. Next man up.
Don’t hate the player. I know you’re not technically hating but this is the systems fault not the player.

He can be upset with the player if he wants. He's a fan and feels like the player betrayed the program. I understand that people need to do what's best for them but I grow weary of people insisting that college football fans must be benevolent saints all the time.

Now that the initial shock is wearing off I’m starting to feel better.

- based on recent history there is a very good chance Pena will miss significant time with injury. Avoiding our top NIL player on IR most of season is a huge Win.

- WR is our deepest position. I think a Fran recruit can step into slot and be productive.

- Feels like found money! Let’s use Peña’s 1M (?) on a position of greater need. I’d love a Center, LB, CB or even a pass rusher.

Time to shake it off and get excited for Spring Portal Season tomm !

Yeah anyone can feel how they want, but I’m saying this is the systems fault and almost unbelievable it has got to this point.
Just a total mess.

There were a few guys that were healthy and didnt play, presumably because they showed coaches enough and didn't want injury or tape risks.
Wasn't Dan Villari on that list.

Wouldn't be surprised if he moved on too

Would be fascinating if they could set up a system where the school that has its players poached gets compensated. Miami has to pay $50-100K to take our starting receiver. Kind of like European soccer transfers or something. It would encourage the MAC and Sun Belt schools to go to the trouble and expense of recruiting and finding HS players. Some players are free transfers, others cost $.

Of course. He is gone and gone for good. Unless he came back hat in hand. What do you do when you hand him more NIL than you already agreed to when every starter on both sides of the ball come in to your office with the same demand? This sucks and it hurts but it is the one position we seem to be really strong at. Spend this money that we were going to pay Pena on something we need and move on.
Find an Aussie kicker who can punch the pigskin to the moon!

I agree with almost everything except that we are deep and loaded. I think we are in for a bad season. Forget our road schedule for just a moment. We have two games at home against teams that beat us last season and 2 more games against Duke and UNC that will be very rough.

He got his degree (I think) and put up some really good numbers last year. He gets offers for more money after five years of Syracuse and looking at a more run-oriented offense than McCord fest.

I kinda get it. Sucks. But...

Yeah, is what it is.

Would have been A LOT better if he jumped prior to the spring game and Fran making him team captain, however.

A bit of a dick move if we're honest.

I am strongly opposed to this proposal.

The reason an imbalance was created was because the schools overly benefited from the student athletes. Pandora's box is open, we're not going back to that.

The school has no right to the long term value of an individual attending the institution. You're essentially advocating for a wage garnishment.

Honestly, sucks for us, but this is good for him, financially, I assume.

I think in the long run these players may regret these choices, as it reduces their long term popularity, but if it brings him life changing money now, who is to stop him?

He has given us his all and then some & doesn't owe us anything.

This is the short term thinking that puzzles me. He would have been loved here forever, like Jesse Edwards would have been. Burn the bridge and you burn a lifetime of opportunities for a quick payday.

Nor do we. He played for the paycheck. Just like I do. I work for a paycheck. If I have a chance for a better one, I will leave. But I don't expect people to give a chit about me when I do.

You post this every year ;)
haa! but think that's not accurate, at least in so far as I recall. Think I've always said I was near the final straw because of NIL, etc..

Add in Cuz of my former political party of mine now causing my outlay to be about $20,000 larger next year (tariffs, good bye my ACA health ins. As as a self employed small business type it’s all on me), anyway it's made the decision easier.
