Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

So have we received official confirmation that he's actually in the portal? Usually there's some sort of report saying a player has actually entered...all we've heard was that he intended to. And radio silence since

247 has him officially in the portal on their list but I'm not sure if that's the exact match of the real portal. I don't think Trebor ever made an official announcement.

Yes he is actually in the portal and confirmed that with Brent Axe

The unusual part is he hasnt signed with a dance partner yet. Usually when they enter in the spring they have a destination lined up and ready to go and within 24hrs are announcing where they are going.

As I have said before, I hope for Trebor's sake, because as a human he is a great kid, that his agent did not over play his hand.

I am starting to think that when Trebor came to Coach Brown with his 2 million dollar ask and Coach Fran said that he said "you got to go." that perhaps Coach Fran made him enter the portal and pushed him off the team.

He’s a grad transfer. I don’t think he needs to go in the portal. They don’t have to abide by the strict portal dates.

Still needs to enter the portal.

Remember that dates are only when you can ENTER the portal. You can sign with a team at any point.

This was my impression immediately after the interview.

From what he said I think it was about the money, but just as much questioning the team's strategy with Ricky in the context of personal numbers. It's a team sport and there's no room for that in DART.

I really don’t want to downplay his ability but if he’s the top WR in the portal I’d be stunned

If he was 6’4 I’d get it. But slot WR has to be the most replaceable skill position

We don’t have another player like him. It is a big loss. That said IMO he ain’t worth more than $750K tops. It isn’t a game changing position.

Did Penn State recruit him out of high school even though he was from NJ? I believe the answer is no.

Did Penn State have a wide receiver pick up atleast one yard in the Orange bowl semifinals last season? I believe the answer is also no.

If this happens and with them on the schedule in 2027. This would certainly kick off some northeast rivalry juice as we approach the renewing of that series.

Peña was a non factor until last year

Why can’t another on the receiver come out of no where just like he did?

Who says we don’t have another player like him? The roster also isn’t finalized so who knows who’s in the slot come August

Agreed 144%.

Did *anybody* have Meeks on their bingo card as one of our top WR’s last season?

Yeah, no.

But he stepped up and took advantage of his opportunity, big time.

Gill was similar in the 2nd half of the season.

JRS is healthy now.

And we’ve got a bunch of other promising, talented guys waiting in the wings.

WR is our deepest position, by far.
We'll be fine there.
Next man up.

Exactly - someone else will step up. Emanuel Ross is ready for a breakout and Boobie looked great in the spring game.

Pena was a fringe candidate to be drafted if he had declared. Without going through any evaluations his chance to be drafted is zero.
Anyways looks like he is not eligible for the draft because he still has eligibility and he didn’t declare.
Still could try to sign with a team as a free agent, but could probably make more money via NIL.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the draft, players must have been out of high school for at least three years and must have used up their college eligibility before the start of the next college football season. Underclassmen and players who have graduated before using all their college eligibility may request the league’s approval to enter the draft early.

Players are draft-eligible only in the year after the end of their college eligibility.

Before the draft, NFL Player Personnel staff members confirm the eligibility of draft prospects; that means researching the college backgrounds of approximately 3,000 college players each year. They work with NCAA compliance departments at schools across the country to verify the information for all prospects. They also check the rosters of college all-star games to make sure that only draft-eligible players play in the games.

The Player Personnel staff also review all of the applications submitted by players who want to enter the draft early. Underclassmen have until seven days following the NCAA National Championship Game to declare their intentions to do so. For the 2017 NFL Draft, 106 undergraduates received NFL approval to enter the draft, as did 13 players who graduated without using up all their college eligibility.

Once players have become draft-eligible or have declared their intention to enter the draft early, the Player Personnel staff work with teams, agents and schools to clarify the players’ status. They also work with agents, schools, scouts and teams to enforce league rules for Pro Days (where NFL scouts come to colleges to observe prospects) and private workouts.

During the draft, Player Personnel staff confirm that all players who are drafted are draft-eligible.
Thank you for the clarification.
