Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

there definitely won't be kyle mccord numbers this year. Before it even starts all of us need NOT to compare the two. mccord was literally historic, historic in his numbers in the acc, historic by cuse history and soon to be in the NFL doing great things.

No one should (not saying you are just blabbing here) even begin to hope collins can be as good as mccord. We can hope he's good real good, lets say a notch above dungy and shrader. If he's that good we'll be ok, meaning competetive in most games.
This ^^^ Completely agree. I would expect to see Nixon calibrate playcalling to his strengths and develop his abilities and confidence. Quick slants, screens, outs...3 step and quick reads. As confidence builds and the game slows down, expand the playbook.

He did. Syracuse hired Coach Fran on or about 11/27/2023. Georgia still had to play the SEC Championship game on 12/2/23 and the Orange Bowl vs FSU on 12/30/23.

I haven't heard Coach Fran say anything about Pena not living up to his commitment or about Pena not being DART. I've only seen that stuff here.

Didn't Coach Fran say he intended to help Pena after next season? Doesn't sound like Coach Fran is holding any kind of grudge. Maybe people here should consider taking a similar approach.

I respect Coach Fran for not paying a player more than he thinks the player is worth. And I respect Pena for doing what he thinks is best from him.

I hate to see him go. I was shocked when I first heard the news. But it's time to move on and figure out this roster.

Trebor Pena, thanks for the memories. I wish you the best unless you're lining up against the Orange, then its Go Orange.

Coach Fran, thanks for being true to who you are. You do you. We have your back!

Go Orange!
My post was directed at board members lamenting Pena “breaking his agreement” for a better opportunity, but accepting HCFB’s actions without a cross word

I wonder what the chances are the Pena ends up back at Syracuse
Sure. Don’t let him get the C back or the suggested raise in his pay. You risk your own market value when you search for greener pastures.

Nixon is coaching to be in the NFL next year. I'm confident he will develop an excellent gameplan.

Yep. Was just articulating that the offense we saw last year with McCord would likely look different this upcoming season with Collins given strengths and experience.

100% agree. Can't wait!

It’s called being brutally honest.
We can’t pay 2m for a WR outside of maybe a guy like Marv Jr or someone like that - most schools can’t or won’t. Telling a player demanding that that we can’t do it isn’t blasting them lol.

Blasting him is telling him he is a poor leader and only interested in himself. If they quoted Fran saying something like that, then fine.

Everyone is a free agent every semester at this point. Peña is not going to be the only Syracuse player to leave at the last minute. This system is a free for all. Put some other player in his spot and let’s play ball. In the current environment I really only care about the jersey.

I retracted my comment from a couple days ago, now that we know the details. No way I'd bump his pay by 150%.

This is why Fran's transparency is the best. Everyone is smarter for it. Rumors don't fly and innuendo doesn't rule the day. I wish everyone in college sports operated that way.
100%. This secretive BS is the worst and really not needed.

Lots of the story hasn't been told. Trebors side of the story. Where he ends up and what will his NIL amount be. Was there another school offering him before the portal window opened?
Nico a consensus 5 star with 3 yrs left and coming off a playoff run had a $2.5M deal, Tenn told him to kick rocks, and he ended up settling at UCLA for a little more than a $1M. As Fran said who in there right mind is going to pay a 5’10 180lb slot receiver $2M. I’ll be shocked if that’s what he gets. Lots of shady stuff happens with this NIL. If he collects $2M when Nico only got a little over $1M it will be amazing to see. I don’t care if he’s the best player on the team. It doesn’t mean i’m giving him the more money because of the fact. $500k. Take it or leave it. Save the rest for next years war chest.

He hasn’t been a part of NFL evaluations for months and months. No one would take him a week from now.
I'm just saying it may be an option, and I believe he still could be drafted in the later rounds. I also believe good NFL scouting departments have a pretty good idea where the talent is generally regardless of class.

Trebor definitely was given bad advice.

Zero chance Pena would get drafted this year if he decided to go that route now. He hasn’t gone through any evaluation processes. He would be an undrafted free agent.

Bad look by Rhino with what he said and trying to back pedal quickly. Have a ton of respect for him and all he did for the S but come one man, it's all about the money.

I don't think Fran will ever regret what he said in this interview. The man speaks the truth, sometimes the truth hurts and ALOT of this men need to hear it.

Pena left after making a new deal and taking a leadership role. Fran has every right to say he is not a leader or great teammate...it's the truth.
If you listen to Coach, Mr Peña did not want a leadership role .

I’m not trying to be argumentative, but I reallllly don’t think it’s an option. NFL teams have invested literally thousands of hours in scouting draft-eligible players over the past year. They’ve had massive teams working round the clock since the season ended in January to build their proprietary draft boards. It’s hard to overstate how much time and energy teams invest in the draft process.

There’s literally no way that any team is going to take a flyer on Pena. Honestly I doubt it’s even possible. I assume all players, even those with no eligibility, must formally enter the draft in some clerical way. No chance that option is still open to Pena.

You do realize he coached for UGA after he was hired here right? And I’ll be willing to bet you whatever you want that he had prior approval to interview for the role from Kirby Smart before he did it.

So enough with the false equivalence.

It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it and that’s the point.

Always enjoy your posts Scooch. I respectfully disagree. I'm good with that. Right now it's a wait and see.

I had to google when Elmore left and why. I'm not sure he would've sniffed the field in the Fran Brown world.
I love Elmore and he did all he could for us. BUT u make a promise to someone and then change your mind itsnot a good look and honestly i wouldnt want himback even if he came back for less. This is slightly better than qb from tennessee. Now no one can trust your word and THAT is why Fran is still pissed.

Pena and Allen were our most reliable receivers last year - think they dropped one ball combined - they were also two of the toughest kids on the team - this is a big loss
Its a huge loss but how it was done was wrong.
