Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

After learning more, fully in Fran’s camp on this one. We will have reinforcements coming via the portal too.
I’m just disappointed that it came down to money on a player that the program stood by basically when he was an injured non-contributor for most of his career. Sincerely interested if it was substantially more or not.

Any event, I’ll reserve judgement on the final product until it’s a final product.

Of course. He is gone and gone for good. Unless he came back hat in hand. What do you do when you hand him more NIL than you already agreed to when every starter on both sides of the ball come in to your office with the same demand? This sucks and it hurts but it is the one position we seem to be really strong at. Spend this money that we were going to pay Pena on something we need and move on.
FYI not all starters get NIL $$. I was surprised to learn that.

Quick thoughts: Good player. Absolutely replaceable.

He was schemed open quite a bit in this system, and also benefited from stellar QB play. He made the most of opportunities given to him, but I honestly think there isn’t much of a difference between Pena and Gill per say.

He is a dangerous punt returner, and I think he’s more impactful as a punt returner than a WR.

Ehhh, Pena wasn’t a Fran recruit. He has loyalty to him but not as much as some of the guys that Fran brought in from high school.

Remember Pena spent several years here under Dino and one under Fran. His allegiance isn’t as strong as some of these other guys.
He had a relationship with Fran. Fran had him committed to Temple before Babers flipped him. This is second time he has dissed Fran.

For everyone analyzing how we are going to do with our schedule this year, I have two words to show it is not always what you think:
Florida State
It’s a tougher schedule but it’s not impossible.

And...so what? The schedule is murder. There is no way to spin it otherwise. The games we think are easy, the home games..we lost to two of those teams and the two others have talent and great coaches.

Yeah it’s like even if one or two of those teams turn out to be like Florida State this season. It’s still a gauntlet. It’s a gauntlet by a wide margin.

He did recruit him from temple

And that was my point. Winning on the road is tough no matter who you play. Throw in that I actually saw a top 25 where all 6 of our foes on the road were on it. And our home schedule isn't a piece of cake.

I do agree with what you saying. He did have some pretty great touchdown catches that saved the semi poor throws.
Overall I think he benefited from a throw happy offense with a very special QB.
