Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

I don't mind kids getting paid. But it's tough on fans to lose your best players. The day is coming when I am out on major college sports. It's the haves and have nots and it's uninteresting.
Yep just look at the men’s/women’s final fours, 7 of the 8 #1 seeds made the FF (and the one that didn’t make it had its best player blow out her ACL what would’ve been eight out of eight). And from what I’ve read big NIL $ was a big part of that reality.

So your post is pot on. Used to look towards sports for a break from the reality of watching the rich get richer, now it’s there too, so I get it. My interest level as mentioned is seriously reduced and is hanging on by a thread

I used to go out of my way to watch college hoops games around the country, and to a similar extent football. But this has pretty much killed any of my casual interest outside of anything Syracuse. I graduated from St. Lawrence so I've been much more in tune with division 3 sports post covid then I ever have before. No NIL nonsense, very little portal issues. When someone like me who has always been a die hard d1 hoops fan starts tuning into SUNYAC or Liberty League basketball games on a Tuesday night over d1 power conference games something has gone wrong.

Without reading this whole thread, is he trying to gauge what he’s worth to find out what he deserves at SU? Or is he really looking to get out?

From what I’ve gathered from the thread the tldr is:

He was offered, and accepted, a raise to stay at SU already this offseason, then presumably someone offered him a bigger bag and he either split or attempted to get Fran to renegotiate a deal that was already sealed.

But I’m dumb and have no idea what’s going on.

Amen brother on all that same here, Hamilton college is my alma mater and that’s where I’ll take in some games along with some others. Always root for and will continue to watch Cuse cause that’s just in the blood, but pulling back on the big $ spent, time devotion etc

Quick thoughts: Good player. Absolutely replaceable.

He was schemed open quite a bit in this system, and also benefited from stellar QB play. He made the most of opportunities given to him, but I honestly think there isn’t much of a difference between Pena and Gill per say.

He is a dangerous punt returner, and I think he’s more impactful as a punt returner than a WR.
"You are not our most valuable asset."

Fran is.

One thing I do wonder about...a few weeks ago, Jackson Holser (sp) had the head of recruiting from 247 on his show. He said that the way Fran is recruiting Florida, Head coaches from Florida are going to be hearing from large donors about why Syracuse is doing such a great job down in Florida. I wonder if it is Miami, if this is a message to Fran about recruiting down in Florida. Just a thought.
I think I remember a few decades ago that a California coach (maybe it was multiple California coaches) who said they were sick of SU and Boeheim getting players from there and it had to stop. I think UCLA’s Harrick may have been one, if I recall. Within a few years the California pipeline did seem to dry up. There was always some territorialism but I figured that now the main thing that mattered was NIL, coaches, coaching contacts, recent success etc.

We have 100 kids on the roster and 22 coming in over the summer. There has to be a lot more heading to the portal.
There's 22 walk ons that can go... HCFB has done the math... 105 is easily attainable

Not a peep from Pena.
I hope reconciliation is afoot.
Nah at this point I want him gone. If he really tried to negotiate more money after being named captain and getting a big raise then it’s time to move on.
This will be a net positive. Let a kid step up in slot and let’s invest his money to improve a different position

I think it was the Pump brothers who stopped playing ball with Syracuse coaches/boosters

I watched very little of the final four and very little of College football other than SU and no SEC games
