Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

Yeah! There’s no ME in team!!

Wait, what? :p

But seriously - hope that check from The Ewe or wherever doesn’t bounce.

FFF these guys trying to pull this ish at the end of Spring camp.

Hope he ends up at UNLV, and then finds out that what they offer,
and what they actually pay,
are vastly different.
Isn’t there a me in team if you spell it backward?

Fran said Pena had concerns about if Rickie was good enough to be QB1. Which may be true but Rickie still has 3 year of eligibility to grow, let him get acclimated this year.
I don't want to see fans in the game chats this year when the offense is struggling saying, "TP got out at the right time, he knew what was up" etc.

Doesn't really help a guy that has only one year of eligibility left.

It’s not a “he doesn’t like Rickie” take to say it would be incredibly difficult to duplicate his McCord as QB numbers with a brand new QB. It’s common sense that this would be a consideration.
Bumping this after Fran’s interview.

How are these NIL deals typically structured? I assume you get money periodically. If he signed a new one in December or whenever was he getting money monthly or something since then? I would think you should get the money maybe weekly after every game you are still with the team maybe? certainly not out of season or else you have been paying a guy who leaves and got zero return or possibly negative return on that pay. Or maybe the pay is one lump sum after the season with pay reflective of the percentage of games you were on the team for?

Least surprising news possible when we didn't get a QB that could keep the talent around. Someone may be willing to take a smaller bag if they still see a maximal chance at the league. His production would likely drop a fair amount this year. It isn't McCord throwing 50 passes a game back there.

One thing in all of this - Pena's had a lot of injuries. He may be much more nervous at this point than others about getting hurt again. His thought that this may be his best chance at a pay day from football is rational and might not be wrong.

The offense most likely will struggle, I think it would still struggle even if Pena was there. Our schedule is brutal and we have a ton of young players.

I also think there’s a little bit of a need to put up good numbers again to have a chance at the NFL. It sounded like Peña doubts he can put up the same numbers at SU as he did last year. It also sounded like Peña isn’t a leader in the same way as Lequint and others were, being a player first and team leader second. Someone offered him more money, life changing money, to go somewhere with a better chance to make highlight reels this year, in a role he’s more comfortable with. Fran certainly seemed torn between advising him to go and wanting him to stay.

I think he’s a really talented college player but, at the end of the day if this team is gonna win more than 4 games it’s gotta be because the defense and special teams stepped up.
100% agree that we're unlikely to compete two years in a row with inconsistent defense and terrible special teams.

There's somebody at the helm (HCFB and staff) superintending and navigating this byzantine, heartless and abstruse CFB business, whereby you have to practically reconstitute a new team each year while balancing NIL, player expectations and team chemistry. It is because of Fran and his stellar leadership that I'm not walking away from the morass of CFB. He has a plan and he has convictions. They may not always be optimal, but they are certainly the best that can be expected given the nusto circumstances pervading the sport. As a longtime fan I'm pleased to follow his lead and enjoy the hell out of his (and others affiliated w/the program's) efforts.

No guarantees wherever he ends up either.
