Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

Not what I heard...Doesn't matter now anyway. BTW Angeli is better than Allar.
well technically he didn't under current rules. He applied for the waver but the rules as they are written would have indicated he did not have any additional eligibility.

Must be nice to overrated in the polls every year so you can survive losing your two biggest games on your schedule and still make the 12 team playoff. At Iowa might be tricky since it's the game before the road tOSU game, but the B1G gave Pedo St. a break with a bye week before tOSU. The home game against Indiana the week after tOSU loss could be interesting. Other than that not much on the schedule @UCLA, home Northwestern, @ Michigan St, home Nebraska, @Buttgers.

They probably would have gotten in regardless of where they were ranked preseason - they were around #5 in computer polls going into the playoffs, and had the #9 SOS. I’m a little baffled by that though - the only ranked team Penn State beat was Illinois - how did they end up with such a high ranking in computer polls and in SOS?

Whatever they are doing to game the system, it’d be nice to figure out and duplicate as best as possible. It’s not just “being ranked high early”, because the computer polls love whatever they are doing.

Anyone who doesn’t realize that after Saturday is delusional.

Collins is MAYBE a DII QB, absolutely not an FCS QB - and not even playing with prime Jerry Rice would change that.

So, you know better than all the talent evaluators who rated him 4 stars out of high school.

You know more than the coaches at LSU who offered him a scholarship and had him on the team for 2 years.

You know more than Fran Brown, who seems to me to have brought in much better talent than we are used to having at Syracuse.

Got it.

While I disagree about him not being a G5 calibre QB or even an eventual P4 level starter, to be fair...

-HS ratings are hard given the level of competition.
-HS ratings are often based on potential.
-His HS evaluations identified many of the same issues we are seeing now. He hasn't overcome them and met his potential.
-LSU recruited over him pretty quickly.
-Fran was in a big QB hole and needed to take a shot.
-Fran decided he needed Angeli.

I think at this point he is a project. If this were the 90s where people didn't xfer out and Angeli did not get hurt, I would still have hope that he would develop enough to be QB1 in 2027. But in today's world he is not likely to still be here in 2027. So all that really matters is what he can offer us today, and not tomorrow.

I have a huge advantage over the guys who recruited him. They hadn't seen him play at the P4 level yet. I have now.

Knowing what they knew then, would I have done anything differently? No. Knowing what they know now, who the guys who thought he was a P4 QB? The answer is obviously yes, as LSU coaches shed exactly zero tears over him leaving. So short answer is - yes, I know more than the guys who recruited him did...that's the advantage of time.

PS - Were you running around telling everyone who said Ryan Leaf was terrible his first year in the NFL that they were idiots who thought they knew more than the scouts and team who evaluated him and drafted him #2? Because that would have been pretty foolish on your part. Kinda the same thing here...

No, I never did say that. Nice strawman on your part, though.

One thing I would say is that it's a lot different rating NFL players than it is rating HS prospects who are just beginning to play in college.

HS / Early College kids have much room to improve, and grow into their bodies, get professional S&C support for the first time.

NFL guys are pretty much the finished product after just a couple years in the league, either they make it or they don't.
