Exactly what PAcuse said so no point in my retyping it. This is all common knowledge to anyone that pays any modicum of attention. You obviously as a board icon, of all people, pay some of the most attention so either you missed that news or simply forgot.

The only real conjecture is if Pena made more or less money by leaving. The tea leaves from around here have been he was set to make 800k at Cuse and once he was told to leave the bidding war he expected never transpired and he ended up taking much less.

Now on the surface this is a dice roll IE take less now and go to a program which were a preseason playoff favorite and had a pre season Heisman candidate QB. HOWEVER, it doesn't take much research to realize Franklin can't coach his way out of a paper bag and Allar is dogshizz inside said flaming paper bag.

What I've not seen is if Pena had any other P4 offers that he rebuffed to goto Penn State. He's a "nice" role player but his film shows him as a system guy with a lowish athletic ceiling.

McCord and Fran made him matter... without either he now plays on a team with the same 3-3 record he "avoided" and has 20 catches for 202 yards and 1 TD through 6 games and has been invisible against defenses with a pulse. Sucks to not be the 4th option with an elite QB throwing to him like was the case last year. OG, LA, Meeks, McCord, Fran and Nixon made Pena matter... without the prior 4 as an option he bounced on the latter 2 and got found out really quickly

It’s worse than that…… I believe Peña was the punt returner who muffed the kick late in the 4th Qtr., deep in PSU territory, which lead to the winning NW score.

It wasn’t Pena, but they showed Pena back to return and then there was a stoppage in play and must have swapped out the return guy during that timeout.

Angeli was floated last year but we got McCord.
Pena left because he asked for more money after agreeing to a deal in December for more money.
Fran told him to back his bags.

Easy to judge and could have been handled better but had he gone anywhere else I would be cheering him on. He and his mom are good people and feedback after his junior year was that he would have an uphill climb to make the NFL. He had one chance to cash in and hoped to maximize the opportunity.

And IMO the criticism of the Cuse QB has been overblown. The move was all about money.

This is part of why I don’t get people getting so upset he left. Adding to my previous comment, it’s not just like obsessing over your girlfriend who broke up with you - it’s obsessing over your ex-girlfriend who is about a five on a good day. It’s just not a good look.

He’s not fast, he’s not big, he doesn’t block…the likelihood he got drafted if he stayed here was in single digits. It could be zero now - but BFD. In retrospect the fact Penn State felt he was an upgrade should have been a big red flag - the team was wildly overrated to begin with.

I would have preferred he stayed at Syracuse - but him leaving was not the end of the world.

I don't get why people get upset when fans rip on players that are on other teams. It's sports. It's what's we're supposed to do. And when a player leaves us for a team we fans hate, the reaction should be stronger. Sure, in the past you could argue these are just college kids, but not anymore. Now they're pros, and they get to have everything that comes with that fame and money. "Don't criticize a guy for doing what was best for him." Why not? He's not family or a friend. I root for my team. If you jilt my team or oppose them, I will root against you.

That being said. Thank you, Trebor. You had a heck of a year last year, and when you bolted, it allowed Fran to upgrade with Cook.
