True "Orange" Story: Inside OTTO!

One of the Few Mascots in College Sports that have nothing/nothing to do with the Founding/Heritage/ or Teams of Syracuse University. Thank's Political Correctness.

:bang:

Someone at the bar asked me last night
"do they grow oranges in Syracuse?"
i said "Nope"
"Well why the hell is your mascot an orange?"

I just winked, and went back to my beer

I never liked Otto much until after my daughter was old enough to go to a game. She absolutely loves Otto...constantly keeps an eye on him. So, I can't help but to like him now.

Love Otto, glad they finally gave him a new suit. The other one was dirty.

Otto has a lot of a peal.

Otto does wedding?!? Who knew!

I'm thinking answering that first question was a waste of time as well. Oranges in Syracuse?

lol I'm in Alaska, some of these guys have no clue what goes on in the lower 48

I love Otto PRECISELY because he makes no sense.

I mean if you get beat by a team with a menacing bulldog, wildcat, spartan, etc. as a mascot that's one thing. But to get beat by a team with a fuzzy orange? That's just so much more demeaning.

I took my son to his first SU game when he was 2 years old. We saw Gerry and Melo crush Georgia Tech. Otto comes out on the floor right before the game and for whatever reason, my son points to Otto and says "Sabach". Our kids have been calling Otto "Sabach" ever since. I have used it as my board name ever since as well.

Looked it up, and "sabach" exists in the Hebrew language meaning "to exalt."

I never knew that. Thanks All4SU, that's awesome. Out of the mouths of babes.

I grew up with the Saltine Warrior and wished there were some way to maintain that tradition without being offensive, but ya know what, Otto grows on you and is really versatile as shown in the video.

Problem with the warrior goes beyond any "PC" aspect, but apparently he's a fake?
